It was a great place to work in the beginning, but new management were hired this year and some of them were not suited for the position they were hired for. Many staff left and others that did not fit into there plan were let go.
It was sad to see what was happening, as I loved my job, the people I worked with and what I did. I would always give it my all and considered the office and staff my second family and home.
I learned a great deal while working there and treasure my experences and learning curves I went through while working there.
The hardest part of my job was learning how to research topics in depth via the internet and then write up a summary on what I had found for my boss, the Program Director.
The most enjoyable part of my job was the organization and planning of the off-site conferences and the annual Holiday party.
Some days I found it hard to believe that I was getting paid to do what I did, I found so much enjoyment in it.

The people at PHI really cares for you. However, because it is a nonprofit organization & the program I am in (Tracing Health) is funded through either school districts or local health jurisdictions, the work flow is pretty much expected to be changed constantly. This isn't too bad considering you do have a supervisor that would undergo the intense training first and then you would go through the training yourself. I had switched between three teams and all three teams managers really care for you. Most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help the patients who are affected by COVID-19. But company wise, it would be the all team meeting- where we play games competitively. 
The company also offers many personal development webinars and courses for you to take on your down time if you'd like. 

The Tracing Health side of PHI was a mess. A few manages on a power trip, difficult individuals I had to supervise, no set workflow that could be followed without daily, weekly, monthly changes. As a supervisor my mental health started suffering. When my position termed I was so happy. I was there for two years. I left and haven’t looked back. I miss no one and I haven’t given the job a second thought.
They did pay well and had fantastic benefits. 
To be clear, Tracking Health was a part of PHI. It was a termed position (temporary position). I hear working on the actual PHI side of the company is much better.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great benefits, great remote jobs. The company is professional and serious. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing when the contract will end or if it will renew your contract.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is friendly, they play some games as icebreakers to get to know each other better. Great community.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
zoom meetings in the morning, then phone calls all day long, and another meeting at the end of the day.

I meet with supervisors, technicians or operators, we discuss work done, we look for solutions, we draw strategies and we make plans.
I identify samples of insects collected in the field, I supervise lab work (entomological and / or parasitological tests and diagnoses), analyze records, make reports, coordinate work strategies in the field.In addition, I research and study (bibliographic review), analyze results obtained and compare with other authors, check advances in entomological sciences, work in my laboratory and field projects.

Grateful for the opportunity to help in the COVID-19 pandemic response effort. Would appreciate more transparency and less sweeping of problems under the rug. Planning ahead would really help mitigate a lot of issues. Holding people accountable instead of moving problems around and making supervisors feel like they are the problem and not the person/problem itself. 

I have been pleasantly surprised by working in this non-profit environment. Public Health Institute (PHI) offers a great benefit package and the workplace culture makes you want to go to work everyday. The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help to educate the public about COVID-19 and how it effects them as individuals and their families. I can truly say that I am making a difference everyday.

Dealing with employees who aren't always upfront or honest but most were great.

Like family.  Support is good.

Our was caring. Fast pace and supportive. Managing a team did not feel alone.

They take care of their employees. Flexibility, fair wage.

Keeping up with processes changes.

Very good culture, worked from home. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Morning brief, execute on the days plan. Debrief at end of day.

My years with PHI were some of the best of my professional career. I was able to cut my teeth and learn from some the best in the health care field supporting issues that affect some of the most dispersive of populations in the state. I was on contract with the state before it restructured to not include outside contractors.
