Redirect Health

There are 2 main parts to Redirect Health: 1) traditional medical clinics where patients receive primary, chiropractic, and pain management care; 2) a health plan that provides and manages health care 24/7/365 for customers around the country.  The 1) clinics have been around since 1996, which means that jobs and processes tend to be well-defined, whereas the 2) health plan has only been operating since 2014, has grown rapidly, and is continually evolving.  Although there are common culture and core values across the organization, team members' experiences can differ quite a bit depending on which part of the company they work in.  I work in an administrative role at the 2) health plan office.  

When I'm in the office I see a lot of smiles from team members and enjoy that it is a generally encouraging and positive environment.  We strive to live by our core values, I enjoy my team, and I feel that the work I do meaningfully helps other people.

In this company there is a lot of change--changes in procedures, changes in strategy, changes in team structure, etc.  Additionally, while there are some things that we do very well, not everything has been figured out.  What this means is that leaders try different approaches to problems and those plans don't always work out.  All this change becomes disconcerting to some people, especially for folks who find comfort in a narrowly defined job description.  However, this changing environment is perfect for people who like variety, who want to be able to prove what they can accomplish as professionals, who like to learn, and who like to take initiative on solving problems without waiting to be told what to do.  

We have been able to accomplish some really cool things!  We make a difference in people's lives by giving them better health care options while saving them ridiculous amounts of money.

Redirect Health is one of the more progressive companies out there offering Free Healthcare Benefits to their employees. They lead with culture in the interview process by first having applicants complete a Culture Index Survey. You are then advanced through the interview process in a Group Culture Fit event at their corporate office in Scottsdale. They have a designated Culture Room, where you learn a full history of the organization, followed by a tour of the office. Minimal paper waste, uplift desks, upbeat music, and business casual dress code there where employees get to wear jeans. In the conference room, there are a few generalized questions about what connects you to their culture and your favorite indulgence under $20...

Once hired, you'll find they are very relaxed on the schedule, and they work with you and your personal needs. They buy you your gift of the indulgence you selected. It's a very entrepreneurial environment. At 11:11 AM each day, there is a team huddle where you greet new onboarding members for the corporate office and health centers alike. 

The health centers have guitars hanging in the waiting room to encourage people to play. It is a nurse lead organization, and their tele-health team is fast responding.

They utilize an internal communication app called Slack where you can get quick responses, but also throw praise at your colleagues. 

This company is moving quickly and participates in iterative learning to adapt and progress. Some people will have a hard time keeping up with changes. There is PTO, 401k option after 6 months (not matched) and no money taken out of your paycheck for benefits. Many positions have a remote, work from home option or compressed work week.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There is no best part of working here other than the paycheck, which is already below standard pay.  What have you done above and beyond your job duties for me today is the management moto. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Projects never get completed, so you are in an endless loop of training and figuring things out. Departments don't line up with projects, so balls get dropped all the time, causing projects to lag or just get dropped midway through.  You are expected to give 150%, so upper management can do 10% and take all the credit.  No security around HIPPA, but if you bring that up,  I you're let go. I worked there 5 years and had 6 bosses. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fight or flight. Watch this hand while the other is doing the real work. We tell you you're family in the beginning, then treat you like a foster child. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work and deal with people not able to remember the password they set the day before. Try and then figure out some band-aid fix for something that came out of the 30 meetings the day before. Realize that change can't be made in the timeline. Get threatened with being fired if I didn't figure it out. Working about 16 hours a day with not time off always in fix it mode. Get yelled at for not having a fix made that was discussed in a meeting after hours that I wasn't a part of, nor get an email on the details.  Finally get ready to go home but since I live close to one of the clinics, I get to be a delivery driver without compensation just because they hired someone 2 miles from their clinic.

I was with this company on the care logistics team for almost 2 years and finally had enough of their bs. They compensate people very unfairly and pick favorites. The micromanaging drove me mad and management is TRASH. When I say trash, I mean they will micromanage you to death, and mask their criticism as “care” for your “success”. This company is the epitome of unequal opportunity. The workload is excessive and the hours are unreasonable. Like I said, they pick favorites. Some people get to work from home, some don’t. Some people get paid $13 for doing a better job than someone in the same position getting paid $17. They work with some people regarding school, family, and life stuff. While they disregard and dismiss others with the AAME troubles.  The healthcare provided is exceptional if you have a premium plan. Otherwise you’re SOL if you ever need to go to the hospital, get imaging done, need prescriptions, or to see a specialist. SOL. The management here is the absolute worst and the absolute PETTIEST people you’ll ever encounter. The owners are also cold and lack a lot of empathy for their workers. They will let you go for even questioning their ethics behind the unfair treatment and unreasonable expectations.

Great concept- transforming healthcare. However, there was a lot of favoritism which caused issues with professionalism. I watched the company grow and can say that at the beginning there was no organization. Everything was a disaster, but as the company continues to grow they are getting it together. It is not like a normal medical group so don't expect it to be like every place you've ever worked. It is 24/7 healthcare which means on call shifts for care logistics, Saturday clinics hours for MAs and a COMPLETELY different type of healthcare plan than typical insurance. Once you understand the concept (which they explain to you in detail now... When rdh first started they explained nothing) it is a great place to work. Hopefully the favoritism has settled down, and I know the company is becoming more organized. It is a new healthcare platform, and they are still experiencing growing pains. As is typical in any business, a few higher-ups feel they are best thing that has walked this earth. If you can handle that then give it a shot.

First thing, lets start with the good. 
You get free healthcare.

Now for the bad. 
1. The pay, you will be low balled because free healthcare. 

2. Management, this place goes in cycles. They try to work as a team, then one idiot will throw off everything and then no one wants to work together. 
The main reason; lack of communication. It is amazing the amount of meetings or "off-sites" they have and they learn nothing. 
IF they got rid of three main leaders, this company would run smooth. 



3. Lack of training. 
If you take this job, good luck there isn't any training. Learn from the person next to you, who learned from the person next to them. Don't ask leadership for training because 9/10 times they don't even know what is going on. 

4. This whole company runs on the IT department, which is the smallest department. Every project falls on them with little to no planning and when it fails, due to the extreme lack of leadership, it will be their fault.

This is a great way to eliminate wasteful healthcare spending, however there are times when an in-office visit is needed... at which time the team help the navigate the customer to the most convenient and cost-effective office.

Entrepreneurial company with a proven solution, great people, solid values and culture. Employee ideas are invited and appreciated by ownership. If you're a purpose driven person wanting to make a difference in health care and you're comfortable in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment - couldn't find a better place!  We move fast and try new things, which can be uncomfortable and disruptive to some people. Not a place for the "because that's the way we always did it" mentality. Not for everyone and the company understands this in hiring practices. Processes continue to be built as we grow, which is hard for some people who would be more comfortable with the well established processes of a more mature company.

I was pretty sure I was going to retire from here when I first started working here. I was so beyond happy and loved every minute. Then they gave a power hungry person a title and it all went down hill. They then repeated the cycle and brought in a manager who has no clue what he is doing with the biggest ego of them all. Those two managers are the reason that poor company has such a high turn over rate. I still to this day absolutely love the company. If you can get into any other department in the company you will never be sorry. But don’t waste your time with their care logistics. Not until the get better leaders. Couldn’t say enough good about the other parts of the company however. Especially the free healthcare. It was amazing for my small daughter and I. 

Honestly, I love working for Redirect Health. I stand behind their mission to change our current Healthcare system, which I am happy to be a part of.  I not only work for a great company but excited to be a part of much needed change in our Healthcare system.  Work life balance is decent and they are very understanding. The people are great, my team is great, and I love how they focus on their mission to better the company.  Like any company, they experience growing pains because of its rapid growth but I think they really try to make it better and adjust as quickly as possible. I hope to be there for many years and be a part of this change. Best part is Employees get free Healthcare for them and their family, which is unheard of.
