The job itself was overall easy and enjoyable; shelves books, help patrons, plan activities. However, my experience with some managers was nothing short of exhausting micro-management and pedanticism. Every manager is different, and your experience really depends on who you end up working with. 
I think that it's also important to mention that there were many times where my coworkers and I felt unsafe while working at this library. The Main library is the only location with proper security, and if you're at a branch it's up to you and your coworkers to mitigate situations. The amount of times patrons have told me, "Man, you guys really need security" is immeasurable. 
Additionally, hours are generally not flexible. Full-time is mandatory 40 hours a week, and you will get in trouble if you cannot reach that 40 hour requirement. Luckily, PTO is decent. Part-time, on the other hand, is best if you need more flexibility with your work week. 
Moving to a positive note, this library has very good medical benefits, competitive pay, and lots of room for growth (if you have a degree, that is). I have made a lot of life-long friends from working at the library, but it just has more cons in some areas that I cannot ignore. 

A day at work consists of making sure the library is an enjoyable environment for all ages. There are a lot of different types of people that come to the library, and some that choose not to follow the code of conduct, and it is my job to enforce it. I have great management that is flexible with scheduling around my military schedule and school. I enjoy my co-workers, I feel that someone would have my back if need be. Hardest part of the job is keeping busy without patrons thinking they are being harassed, since it is a library, people have to keep the volume at a certain level, and constantly have to be reminded. The most enjoyable is the rotation of position, within the building throughout the day.

I worked at St. Joseph County Public Library as a Youth Services Librarian at Centre Township. We operated as a team and had an amazing repertoire with our patrons. The manager was extremely supportive and had open communication. I enjoyed coming to work everyday and if I didn't have to relocate to another state with my fiancee: I would have continued to work at SJCPL until my retirement age. SJCPL-Centre Township was a fun, positive workplace that was conducive to a family lifestyle as well. My family and I will always donate and support SJCPL overall.

Working at the St Joseph Public Library was beneficial financially as well as intellectually. It stimulated my capacity to learn and grow in an environment that was very positive and friendly. I experienced many new things and learned from very dedicated personnel. The fact that I love books was just an added bonus. The benefits were very good and our treatment as employees fair and impartial. I enjoyed working there very much.

The hours are crazy, 2 late nights and two eerarly mornings making scheduling appointments outside of work difficult. They like to move staff against their wills which has caused a lot or resentment and high turnover. The work can be enjoyable at times but that's only because of the other staff. 

Overall I think SJCPL can be a great place to work. I would at a branch for most of my experience and found it rewarding being able to help my community. I enjoyed going to work because I got along with my coworkers and the job overall is pretty chill. There are two negatives depending on what you are looking for in a job. One, things can be slow to change even when they are not working. Two, there is not a lot of room for advancement, almost none without a masters. 

Overall pretty good. 

I loved working at the library, seeing new people and getting to know the everyday employees was great.  A typical day here was filing any documents that needed to be filed and making sure the bookshelves stayed stocked.  I was a volunteer so I didn't get paid, but I still enjoyed doing my job everyday.

This was a repetitive job but interesting if you love books and learning. I did learn the layout of the library! It is difficult socially and just in casual conversation to work there, however, if you are not a very liberal thinker.
It was assumed that you were, it seemed.

I enjoyed working at the library. I am very detail oriented and this satisfied that. I was injured in a car accident however and ended up going on medical leave and not going back because I couldn't get my surgery that was needed in time.

Meeting new patrons and the regulars was great. Everyday has a different story to tell, never a dull moment. Throughout the year there are many activities that are held at the library. There are multiple branches and the coworkers are fun and enjoyable to work with.
