Management cares more about being superior than actually providing any decent care to the residents. Availability will forever be ignored. Almost every day you have off you’ll get a call or a text begging you to come into work. If you tell them you can only cover a portion of the shift they will guilt trip you into staying because you are “betraying your team”. Management picks and chooses who can call in and who cannot. Don’t bother trying to get a doctors note. You’ll “have to come in”… even throwing up every 5-10 minutes you are required to stay. When you tell management you are not available certain days as you get hired you still will not receive the days off, having to get coverage or just work the days anyways even with months notice. It is also okay if some employees no call no show, because it “is just healthcare” but when it comes to a serious illness and you physically cannot work you must be there or else…. I would not recommend this employer to ANYBODY. Also a little fishy that some management has no healthcare background.

I arrive at 5:50am and get an overview of the last two shifts and get any additional information that I need to know about residents and their needs. From there you proceed to perform morning cares on the residents, serve them breakfast, follow a toileting schedule, clean rooms, and have 2-3 different activities for the residents to participate in. In this job I have learned how to handle the different forms of Alzheimer's and dementia while learning how important it is to work as a team with your coworkers. 
The hardest part about my position is dealing with the passing of a resident. As a caregiver you learn so much about them that you KNOW them and feel for when they gone. This goes right along with the most enjoyable part however. Learning the residents and how they lived their lives makes you feel as if working here that you gain an entirely new family.

The Cottages is a great place to work if you love helping people, especially the elderly and those with dementia. Unfortunately, working at the Cottages, we were so short handed that it felt impossible to get everything that was expected of you done on time for the next shift, especially on days when things get a little too crazy. People call frequently for you to take their shift, and it felt like all the different shifts were against each other, there was no feeling of teamwork, and when concerns were brought up to management, they were just brushed aside. I'm sad because I really loved the residents and wanted to do my best for them, but I was so exhausted after each work day, that I would find myself sleeping until the next shift. 

While caregiving is a very difficult job; The Cottages team works very well together for the most part for the overall best of the residents.  I have worked here many years and have always been treated fairly by the Directors I work for, and they work very hard trying to help however they can.  They also listen when I have a problem or issue come up.  We all know that pay is not as high in healthcare/caregiver roles, but the pay is satisfactory and pales in comparison to the reward of helping my residents and team.  They also try to make up for it with bonuses and vacation time along with bringing us things like treats and sometimes gift cards.  At the very least it shows they are always trying to help their team.

Not only are you one person for 30+ people but all people running this facility have almost zero background in healthcare. Some do have experience but rarely do they help. Residents are some of the sweetest people ever. However the workload especially at the assisted living is much to high. Your schedule will constantly be changed last minute. There is zero communication with management. Not to mention micro management. They care more about looks and housekeeping than actual resident care. Incredibly unapproachable or helpful in anyway. This job almost scared me out of healthcare due to dealing with management among other experiences that never should have happened. Do not work here. 

I am giving this company 5 stars! I have never worked for another company that feels so much like a family. From the top of the company down, everyone is treated the same and actually cared for! I know that if I need help I can call the general or executive managers or even the owner of the company and someone will be on their way to help or give advice over the phone, any time of day! Work/life balance is so important to me and is encouraged by upper management! I am currently going back to school as well and not only am I encouraged to do so I am fully supported! Would definitely recommend!

Management can be overwhelmed however finds time to come out of the floor to interact with staff and residents. If we’re short management can be found on the floor assisting in daily cares and activities. This is healthcare so schedules are always going to be changing. The director does try to work with people to accommodate their needs. Like anywhere you work, people will always talk smack but the management does try to squash drama. The best part of the job is seeing one of our residents smile and the hardest by far is watching a resident pass away. 

I absolutely love everything the cottages stand for. I started at our Boise location as a caregiver on the floor but was moved to our Weiser location. I am now coming up on my three years of being with the company and couldn't imagine working anywhere else. I love the culture, the vibe, and everything the company sets as a standard. There are so many advancement opportunities and is a great place to work if you are looking to make a difference in others lives. Couldn't imagine being anywhere else

Working at The Cottages is an amazing experience. Not only is the staff welcoming to you, management and upper management are sincere and friendly. I love that this company is not corporate run. The director of this entire company knows every resident by name! Not only by name, but on a personal level. We treat the residents here just like family, honestly. I’m so excited to be added to this team!

I have never felt so appreciated at a company before. They care about your work/life balance. They care for the residents/tenants as they would their own family and ensure the caregivers hold the same expectation.
