Manager, Molecular Team

Company Description:

Solis Agrosciences delivers a fully integrated AgTech R&D platform that helps innovators systematically de-risk product development, driving faster commercialization from concept to market. We generate gene-edited and transgenic crops, plant phenotype and efficacy data, and individually tailored research solutions for our startup and corporate customers. Solis’ highly trained and industry-experienced scientists operate in state-of-the-art facilities in the 39 North Ag Biotech district of St. Louis, Missouri.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced molecular biologist to lead our Molecular team. As Manager, you will manage a team of research associates and coordinate multiple concurrent sample workflows, from construct design through data review and delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will prioritize your team's work, develop their skills, serve as project lead and client interface for molecular and sequencing projects, and drive a production and operations mindset by improving workflows and building quality-control checks. You will step in at the bench as project needs require and make sure results moving to internal teams and external clients are accurate, timely, and well documented. This is a full-time, in-person position based in St. Louis, Missouri.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Manage a team of research associates: prioritize their work to meet project deliverables and develop their technical skills
Organize samples moving in and out across multiple concurrent workflows, including plant copy-number analysis, gene expression, gene-editing samples, and whole genome sequencing
Perform and oversee the execution of core molecular offerings including vector design, DNA/RNA extraction, copy number analysis, gene expression analysis, and the design and validation of molecular assays
Review data to ensure quality and accuracy before it is delivered internally and to clients
Serve as project lead and primary client interface for molecular and sequencing projects
Increase work efficiency through workflow and process improvements; develop and monitor quality-control checks across workflows
Monitor KPIs and adjust as needed to accurately track the the output of the molecular team
Perform hands-on benchwork as needed to meet timelines, perform troubleshooting, and develop new molecular services
Communicate progress, results, and technical recommendations clearly and in an actionable manner to team members, company leadership, and clients
Follow and help enforce all laboratory safety, stewardship and compliance protocols; contribute to routine laboratory cleanliness and organization

Required Qualifications:

Substantial industry experience in molecular biology
Experience managing research associates or junior scientists
Direct, hands-on experience with construct and vector design
Direct, hands-on experience with DNA extraction, designing, and running molecular assays
Experience coordinating multiple concurrent sample and data workflows and reviewing data for quality and accuracy
Track record of improving workflow efficiency and building quality control processes, with a production and operations mindset
Willingness to perform benchwork as needed
Independent self-starter, strong planner and problem solver, able to perform under tight timelines in a fast-moving startup atmosphere
Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Ability to work in an in-person role in St. Louis, MO

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Benchling software
Interest or experience in bioinformatics

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
