Summary/Objective

The Fabric Upholsterer is responsible for performing a variety of tasks involved in the production and assembly of the company’s seating products. This role includes sewing upholstery covers and upholstering chairs, lounge seating, sofas, and other furniture products using a variety of materials, including leather, vinyl, fabric, suede, and cotton. The Upholsterer utilizes hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to ensure products are manufactured with precision, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

Disassemble products as required for repair, reupholstery, or refurbishment
Remove existing upholstery, padding, webbing, and other materials as needed
Inspect foam and padding components, making repairs or replacements as necessary
Sew and modify upholstery covers according to product specifications
Install upholstery covers using adhesives, hand tools, and power tools in accordance with work orders
Conduct quality inspections to ensure proper alignment of seams, patterns, and overall appearance
Reassemble bases, legs, or other components to complete the final product assembly
Perform a final quality inspection to identify and correct defects, ensuring compliance with design and quality standards
Wrap and prepare finished products for shipment
Package products according to order requirements and palletize for transport
Scan and update inventory or production records in the system as required
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all safety policies and properly handling materials and equipment

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job site can be loud. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in upholstery is preferred
Minimum of three years of upholstery experience, with demonstrated proficiency in upholstering a variety of products, including lounge seating, task chairs, sofas, and related furniture
Knowledge of upholstery tools, equipment, materials, and techniques, including foam cutting tools, pneumatic nail guns, and industrial sewing machines
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
Strong basic math skills and the ability to perform routine calculations accurately
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, specifications, and design templates
Strong attention to detail with an eye for quality, craftsmanship, and aesthetics
Ability to interpret design requirements and production instructions accurately
Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing
