Full Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Human Resources Generalist to join our team and drive our HR initiatives forward alongside the Executive Pastor (and HR Director). In this vital role, you will serve as a key partner in managing Employee Life Cycle Management, Payroll & Benefits, Compliance, Administration, and Performance & Training. Your energetic approach will foster a supportive environment that maximizes employee retention, engagement, and a positive overall employee experience among church and school staff. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence all facets of human resources management while working collaboratively across ministries to achieve strategic objectives.

Duties

Support the Executive Pastor (and HR Director) by overseeing the daily operations of Employee Life Cycle Management, Payroll & Benefits, Compliance, Administration, and Performance & Training to ensure an efficient, organized, and productive human resource department.
Employee Life Cycle Management: Lead the onboarding and offboarding processes. Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications. Oversee payroll self-onboarding and onboarding orientations.
Payroll & Benefits: Maintain accurate, up-to-date HRIS data and employee files. Execute the end-to-end processing of semi-monthly payrolls. Work closely with the dedicated Benefits Specialist to ensure accurate, seamless administration of payroll deductions for group health and retirement benefits during onboarding, offboarding, and open enrollment.
Compliance: Assist the HR Director with compliance tasks, audits, handbook updates, and required workplace reporting
Administration: Perform routine HR tasks delegated by the Executive Pastor (and HR Director). Serve as a trusted point of contact for employment-related inquiries regarding company policies, practices, and investigations.
Performance & Training: Work alongside supervisors to conduct Healthy Supervision check-ins. Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, payroll, compliance, and employment law.
Uphold confidentiality in employee relations, personnel records, and payroll data to protect privacy and comply with labor laws EXCEPT in cases of child abuse or neglect.
Assist the Executive Pastor (and HR Director) by performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is required with 3 – 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience with a strong emphasis on full-cycle HR and hands-on payroll processing.
SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a strong plus.
Prior experience within a church, non-profit, or faith-based organization is highly preferred.
Prior experience navigating modern HRIS and payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Paylocity) is a plus.
Strong knowledge of human capital management practices, employment & labor law, OSHA standards, and workers' compensation procedures.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and effectively.
Demonstrated project management skills and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities simultaneously.
Ability to implement change management strategies while supporting organizational development initiatives.
Experience in training & development programs along with performance management processes.
