Full Job Description

Summary:

Neopolitan Lighthouse’s Shelter Supervisor is responsible for administering and supervising the Domestic Violence Shelter Program. The Shelter Supervisor will provide supervision for all program staff, and will ensure that individuals and families participating in the program receive comprehensive, trauma-informed support services in accordance with the agency’s stated purpose and philosophy, and in a manner which assists them in addressing their specific needs and working towards achieving their goals and objectives. The supervisor will also provide direct support services for survivors of abuse and their children, including counseling, intakes and assessments, safety planning, conflict resolution, advocacy, information and referrals, etc. Overall, the Shelter Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the Domestic Violence Shelter Program runs smoothly and meets its annual projected outcomes. This is a Full-Time position.

Reports To:

The Shelter Supervisor reports directly to the Executive Director.

Position Responsibilities:

Oversight and Administrative Responsibilities:

· Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shelter facility, and enforce all program policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as client contributions and responsibilities.

· Supervise staff and interns in the performance of their duties, and provide guidance and direction as needed.

· Evaluate the services provided by staff and interns in relation to program’s specified goals and standards; ensure that all services are provided to clients in an appropriate and trauma-informed manner.

· Ensure that each client in the shelter receives case management services and is assigned to a Client Support Staff worker.

· Assigns client caseloads to staff and assists in the completion and review of client intakes/assessments.

· Review all client service plans to ensure that clients are setting and working towards goals and objectives to achieve during their stay.

· Review all client documentation and files to ensure that staff documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

· Evaluate and maintain all project records by keeping accurate time sheets, schedules, client and staff files, etc.

· Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

· Confer with staff about clients residing in the shelter to identify additional interventions, services, or resources that may assist them in meeting their needs and/or reaching their goals

· Work collaboratively with program staff to develop and achieve program goals and outcomes.

· Schedule case reviews and group supervision meetings with staff.

· Coordinate the weekly staffing schedules, including coverage of the 24-hour crisis line.

· Conduct bi-monthly staff meetings at the shelter facility to discuss client progress, in-service training, and emerging trends.

· Conduct staff evaluations to acknowledge staff achievements/satisfactory performance, address any areas of concern, and administer progressive disciplinary action when needed.

· Ensure that staff is completing required documentation daily/weekly.

· Supervise the program’s structure/daily schedule and develop new programming as needed.

· Document staff and client problematic counseling sessions.

· Provide administrative back-up for shelter staff.

· Participate in the interview, selection, hiring, and orientation process of new case managers, support staff, and residential legal advocates.

· Assist with the coordination of new-hire and 40-hour domestic violence training and participate in training for direct service staff.

· Ensure that each direct service staff worker has completed the required 40-hour training before answering the crisis line and providing services to survivors of abuse and their children.

· Identify areas of service needs and overall program needs.

· Provide written recommendations to the Executive Director of short and long-term plans for the Shelter Program and services, as well as any suggestions for new/modified services initiatives.

· Attend workshops, seminars, and trainings pertaining to women’s issues and domestic violence issues/service provision.

· Be on call to answer staff questions regarding service delivery.

· Other duties as assigned.

Direct Service Responsibilities:

· Provide trauma-informed, client-centered individual counseling services to survivors of abuse to educate them about domestic violence and assist them in reconciling their feelings about the abuse that they experienced.

· Conduct bi-weekly groups with clients to obtain feedback regarding services, suggestions for programmatic enhancements/improvements, review the Shelter Program guidelines, contributions, and expectations.

· Provide information, referrals, and advocacy services for adults and children residing in the shelter to assist them in accessing needed services.

· Cover the agency’s 24-hour crisis line, and provide callers with crisis intervention counseling, telephone intakes/assessments, information and referrals.

· Facilitate conflict resolution counseling sessions to rectify and resolve client issues and concerns.

· Acts to maintain highly effective client-staff relations within the program and serves as a mediator when needed.

Other Position Expectations:

· Having a private automobile is required. Applicants must understand that any offer of employment is contingent upon their ability to be covered by auto insurance.

· The Shelter Supervisor must successfully pass the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional test, ideally within the first six months of employment, but no longer than the first year of employment with the organization.

· From time to time, the Shelter Supervisor will be asked to cover a shift at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, such as illness, death in the family (of another employee), etc. It is expected that the Shelter Supervisor will be cooperative, and cover shifts when needed.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a master’s in social work or Counseling or a related field. Applicants must have 3 years of experience in supervising direct service staff and must possess planning and evaluation skills. Applicants must also have excellent verbal, written, organizational, and leadership skills, and must be able to demonstrate previous management skills in client services statistics and data. Computer proficiency, experience in domestic violence services, and familiarity with women’s issues are a plus. Being bi-lingual (fluent in English/Spanish) and possessing a Forty-Hour Domestic Violence training certificate are also a plus.
