Full Job Description

Staff Accountant

A locally owned holding company with a diverse portfolio of businesses is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant. This hands-on role is ideal for a results-driven finance professional with 3-5 years of accounting experience and a solid background in corporate finance, financial reporting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance across multiple states. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable tax laws.

Key Responsibilities:

· General Ledger Management – maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and classified, including intercompany transactions.

· Monthly and Quarterly Close – adhere to the monthly close checklist to ensure timely and successful close each month

· Financial Reporting – review, investigate and correct any errors or inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports

· Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial packet (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statements and KPIs for the executive management team)

· Bank Reconciliations – perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card statements to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies

· Accounts Payable & Receivable Management – manage AP/AR functions, including invoice processing, vendor payments, customer billing and collections to support cash flow management

· Tax Compliance – support tax reporting and filings to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations; assist in preparing documentation for audits or tax reviews

· Internal Controls & Auditing – assist in developing, monitoring and improving internal controls; support internal and external audit processes as needed

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

· Assists as needed with processing bi-weekly payroll for multi-state payrolls

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy

· Thorough knowledge of GAAP principles

· Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle or SAP

· Ability to escalate concerns when appropriate

· Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Experience with payroll processing

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.

· 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience in a corporate or public accounting environment

· Multi-company experience with different ownership structures (real estate, construction and property management experience is preferred)

· Experience with Sage Intact a strong plus

· Experience with payroll software
