Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and mission‑driven Certified Recovery Mentor to join our behavioral health team. This position is designed for individuals with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who are committed to supporting others on their healing journey. In this role, you will use your personal recovery experience, professional training, and peer‑support competencies to offer hope, guidance, and practical assistance to individuals facing similar challenges. You will play a vital part in creating a safe, empowering, and recovery‑oriented environment that promotes wellness, self‑advocacy, and personal growth.

Duties

Provide one‑on‑one peer support to individuals navigating mental health or substance use challenges.
Utilize crisis‑management and de‑escalation skills to support clients during high‑stress or emotionally intense situations.
Apply motivational interviewing and strength‑based approaches to encourage positive decision‑making and forward movement in recovery.
Facilitate or co‑facilitate peer‑led groups focused on recovery strategies, coping skills, wellness practices, and community connection.
Share personal recovery experiences appropriately to model resilience, hope, and healthy coping.
Collaborate with social workers, counselors, case managers, and other behavioral‑health professionals to ensure coordinated, person‑centered care.
Assist clients in developing individualized recovery plans, identifying goals, and tracking progress.
Provide education on community resources, treatment options, support groups, and recovery pathways.
Support clients with system navigation, including accessing housing, employment, transportation, and other essential services.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation of client interactions, progress, and service delivery in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
Demonstrate core peer‑support competencies, including ethics, boundaries, cultural humility, trauma‑informed practice, and recovery‑oriented values.

Experience

Current certification as a Peer Support Specialist (state‑recognized credential required).
Prior experience in crisis intervention, addiction services, or behavioral health support preferred.
Knowledge of mental health and substance use treatment systems, community resources, and recovery models.
Strong mentoring and relationship‑building skills with the ability to inspire hope, empowerment, and self‑determination.
Experience in social work, counseling, case management, or related human‑services fields is beneficial.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including documentation, active listening, and professional collaboration.
Ability to maintain ethical boundaries, uphold confidentiality, and model recovery‑oriented behavior at all times.
