Full Job Description

Job Summary

We're looking for the person our leadership team can't run this company without — not because you hold the org chart together, but because you hold the truth, and people trust you with it. You find the version of yes hiding inside a hard ask; when there truly isn't one, you're comfortable being the person who says no, even to people senior to you. You'd rather try something imperfect this week than polish a plan for a season, and you measure your week by what moved, not by who noticed. This isn't a policy-and-paperwork seat. It's a seat at the table, perhaps even the shuffleboard table.

Key Responsibilities

Sit in business and leadership conversations before anyone thinks to invite HR — bring the people lens, the culture read, and the "here's what this costs us in six hours, days, weeks, and months" view others aren't watching for.
Coach leaders on hard message delivery options — that can mean writing the words, being the one who says "this shouldn't come from you," or maybe being the one who does the delivery.
Get to the real root of a performance issue, a conflict, or a team gone sideways — skill gap, dynamic, or readiness — before reaching for a fix.
Own the hard right-fit, right-role, right-time conversations for leaders and employees alike, including the ones nobody wants to have.
Drive culture and engagement like a business priority, not a survey you run once a year.
Keep the company legally sound and risk-aware without it becoming the whole job.
Design pay structures, benefits, and comp strategy alongside leadership,
Lead a small, partly-remote team you trust enough to actually let run.
Ensure employee relation activities are planned, coordinated, and executed throughout the year.

What We Need From You

Meaningful experience at a senior, leadership-facing level in HR (Director scope or equivalent) — ideally somewhere fast-moving and owner- or founder-led, not a large, process-heavy corporate environment.
Real business fluency: comfort with P&L, timelines, deliverables, and operational tradeoffs, not just HR metrics. A background in project management or operations is a strong plus.
A track record of working with senior executives on people decisions — not just executing what they've already decided.
Comfort holding confidential, high-stakes information with discretion, including situations that don't fit a standard policy.
A relationship-and-judgment-first approach to HR — this role is not about building a bigger compliance or policy shop.
Must be able to commute and work in-office at our Brentwood, TN headquarters.

What We Need From You

5+ years of progressive leadership across all facets of HR, ideally earned somewhere fast-moving and owner-led — not a large, process-heavy corporate machine.
Real business fluency: P&L, timelines, deliverables, operational tradeoffs, not just HR metrics. A project management or ops background is a strong plus.
Working knowledge of employment law, labor regulations, and the HR systems that keep it running (HRIS, ATS, performance tools) — the fundamentals, handled without fanfare.
Deep understanding of organizational development, employee engagement, and change management.
A track record of partnering with senior executives on people decisions and driving real change, not just executing what's already been decided.
Experience working across multiple entities and / or business units under one parent company.
Experience managing a distributed team, including remote direct reports.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — strong conflict-resolution ability and the ease to build relationships at every level of the organization.
Exposure to unconventional or highly customized employment arrangements (flexible comp structures, contractor-to-payroll setups, and similar).

Additional Information

This position will require you to primarily work from the office, but some work-from-home flexibility is included.
