Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist & Registration professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a friendly, knowledgeable, and highly organized Medical Billing Specialist who can support patient registration at our Ambulatory Surgical Center. This is a Part-Time day shift position, with hours of operation between Monday - Friday (No nights, weekends or holidays.)

This role allows you to provide support between our patients and insurance providers to ensure understanding of payments and coverages. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing daily billing activities, assisting with financial payments and providing compassionate and thoughtful assistance with payment inquiries.

We are seeking a candidate with excellent communication skills, organization and strong problem-solving abilities. A background in insurance claims is preferred, as well as a basic understanding of coding and insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

Acts as a resource to patients by assisting them in understanding their explanation of benefits, payment plan options, and other financial questions.
Accurately and completely enters all patient registration and financial data into the office computer system.
Performs all front office and revenue cycle assignments including demographic information, Explanation of Benefits.
Performs insurance verification and coverage, including obtaining pre-certification, authorization, and gathers other data elements for the computer system.
Participates in patient account management at the direction of the Business Office Manager (e.g. payment adjustments and posting, payment expectation letters, account statements, account follow up).
Maintains an understanding of third party payer requirements (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, Blue Cross and other commercial insurance plans).
Explain co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, account balances and other payment details to patients.
Responds timely to account and payment inquiries.
Copies, files, and faxes medical records and other documents that support the overall function of the business office.
Provides assist as needed with the patient registration process including identifying self-pay patients, verifying patient demographic and insurance information and ensures patient has completed required consent, HIPAA and Release of Information forms.
Collects co-payments and any outstanding balances at patient check-in.
Participates in quality improvement activities and/or committee(s).
Assists in the development and/or maintenance of databases and reports.
Identifies opportunities for cost savings and efficiency in the business office.
Participates in the training of new employees serving as a preceptor and coach.
Demonstrates self-directed learning and participates in activities that promote personal and professional growth.
Participates in marketing activities as assigned and positively promotes the surgical center in the community.
Cross trains to other Business Office functions as deemed necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related administrative roles within a healthcare setting.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
Familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-ICD-10 coding systems, and medical collection processes.
Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and billing purposes.
Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in coding and data entry.
Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
Prior experience in outpatient surgical services is highly preferred.
