Full Job Description

Overview

This is a temp-to-perm position.

We are seeking a real estate/probate litigation paralegal for a small Houston firm. Mid-senior-level experience is required. Ideal candidate should be a self-starter, a critical thinker, and proactive. Other desired qualities include professional demeanor and able to take direct communication without taking tone personally. Approximately 1600 billable hours/annually are required so candidate must be organized and proactive in moving cases forward. Assignment would start fully in office but will convert to a hybrid role. Firm culture is one of learning and service - big on volunteering and committed to training.

Duties

Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, including case investigation, discovery, trial preparation, and post-trial procedures
Manage and maintain legal case files using document management systems
Conduct comprehensive legal research utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support case strategies
Draft and review legal documents including pleadings, contracts, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence
Organize and analyze evidence; review documents for relevance and privilege; perform document review tasks efficiently
Support project management efforts by tracking deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements across multiple cases
Handle confidential information with discretion while maintaining strict adherence to procedural law standards
Provide executive administrative support such as scheduling meetings, managing calendars, preparing reports, and handling phone inquiries with professionalism
Assist in preparing for hearings or trials by assembling exhibits and managing logistical arrangements

Experience

Proven paralegal experience supporting litigation teams in real estate and probate l law environments
Strong knowledge of procedural law including filing procedures across state and federal courts
Experience using legal support software
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint) along with legal research platforms like Westlaw and LexisNexis
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence; proofreading and transcription abilities are highly valued
Effective client communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining accuracy in data entry and filing tasks
Prior experience supporting attorneys with project management tasks and administrative duties is preferred
