Full Job Description

Expected pay for this position is $17.87-$25.02. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

Job Summary
- The Patient Care & Access Specialist is a float position responsible for providing both patient access and clinical support services within the medical practice. This role performs front office duties, including patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and other administrative functions, while also providing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) support to physicians and advanced practice providers. All responsibilities are performed within the framework of established organizational policies, procedures, and professional standards. Working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other clinic personnel, the Patient Care & Access Specialist helps ensure efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience. Clinical responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, escorting providers during patient visits, obtaining and documenting vital signs and other clinical information in the electronic medical record, assisting with procedures, collecting specimens as directed, stocking and preparing exam rooms, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and supporting patient flow throughout the clinic. Administrative responsibilities include providing general clerical support, greeting and registering patients, scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, processing insurance and demographic information, and facilitating effective communication to support the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Job Specifications
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a current CNA certificate in the state of Illinois. Required to have a current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date. Experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of the following: current clinical and business practices commonly incorporated into the day-to-day operations of a medical practice; patient care principles and clinical practices applicable to the ambulatory care setting; medical terminology; computer systems and applications; office policies and procedures; service excellence standards; all technical equipment used in the performance of assigned duties; proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with CDC and OSHA guidelines; and applicable rules and regulations, including child abuse reporting and guardianship requirements. The patient population served must be considered when assessing the job knowledge required for this position.
- ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:

  - Must have the ability to operate a multiple line telephone system.
  - Must have the ability to adapt and prioritize during high volume periods.

  - Must have the ability and dexterity to operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  - Must be interested in self-motivation and self-improvement.
  - Must be interested in all aspects of maintaining a general business office setting.
  - Must be interested in clinical aspects of performance in a medical office setting.
  - Must be able to use tact, courtesy, and diplomacy when dealing with employees, supervisors, doctors, patients, insurance companies, and the general public.
  - Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
