General Function: Responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of two or more mixing & packaging lines while ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective production of products that meet customer, quality, and food safety requirements. The Production Supervisor directly manages approximately 45-50 production employees, including Line Leaders, Machine Technicians, and Production Employees.
The Supervisor is accountable for safety, quality, productivity, labor performance, employee development, workforce planning, schedule attainment, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position is responsible for maintaining Performance Control System (PCS) visual management boards, ensuring the accuracy of production and labor reporting, and entering and maintaining data within ERP and Manufacturing Execution Systems, including FlexiBake.
The Production Supervisor is committed to company food safety, food defense, quality, and safety policies and maintains a working knowledge of HACCP, CCP, SQF, GMP, and company operating procedures.
Reports to: Production Manager
Positions Supervised/Managed: Line Leaders, Machine Operators, and Production Employees (Mixers, Line Attendant, Oven operators). Approximately 45-50 employees
Responsibilities:
Employee Leadership & Development
· Directly supervise approximately 45-50 production employees across two packaging lines.
· Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Line Leaders, Machine Operators, and Production Employees.
· Conduct regular employee coaching conversations and provide timely performance feedback.
· Complete annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.
· Address attendance, performance, and behavioral issues in a timely, fair, and consistent manner.
· Recognize and reward outstanding employee performance.
· Identify high-potential employees and support succession planning efforts.
· Ensure employee training is completed, documented, and verified for effectiveness.
· Maintain employee accountability while fostering a positive team-oriented work environment.
Workforce Planning & Administration
· Approve employee time-off requests while supporting operational needs.
· Manage employee schedules and staffing levels to support production requirements.
· Maintain accurate employee timecards and ensure payroll information is submitted and approved accurately and on time.
· Coordinate labor assignments based on production priorities, product mix, staffing availability, and operational needs.
· Ensure adequate staffing and cross-training to support production goals.
Safety Leadership
· Promote and enforce a safety-first culture.
· Ensure compliance with all OSHA, GMP, food safety, and company safety policies.
· Conduct daily safety talks and reinforce safe work practices.
· Complete safety observations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
· Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
· Hold employees accountable for maintaining a safe work environment.
· Report all employee safety concerns and regulatory noncompliance.
Production Leadership
· Ensure production schedules are executed safely and efficiently.
· Meet daily production, quality, labor, waste, and downtime targets.
· Monitor hourly performance and remove barriers affecting operational performance.
· Assure that assigned production quantities are completed within scheduled timeframes and meet all customer specifications.
· Coordinate resources between assigned lines and adjust labor based on production requirements.
· Escalate operational issues according to established escalation procedures.
· Partner with Line Leaders to maintain effective line organization, employee accountability, and standardized execution.
· Partner with Machine Operators to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and drive technical improvements.
· Report all downtime events and communicate with Maintenance regarding repairs and equipment issues.
Food Safety & Quality
· Enforce GMP compliance and all food safety, food defense, and quality programs.
· Develop and maintain working knowledge of HACCP, CCP, and SQF requirements.
· Conduct daily verification that all production, quality, and CCP paperwork is completed accurately and properly signed prior to PCQI signoff.
· Report all noncompliance related to food safety, employee safety, quality, or company policies.
· Ensure products meet all customer specifications and company quality standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Enter and maintain accurate production, labor, downtime, waste, and performance data within FlexiBake ERP and other Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
· Create and publish required production reports.
· Ensure downtime reporting and production data are accurate and timely.
· Maintain all required production documentation and records.
Performance Control System (PCS) & Visual Management
· Own and maintain line and area Performance Control System (PCS) boards.
· Ensure visual management boards are accurate, current, and updated according to company standards.
· Lead daily startup meetings and shift performance reviews utilizing PCS boards.
· Communicate operational priorities, performance results, and improvement opportunities through visual management processes.
· Hold Line Leaders and employees accountable for supporting visual management standards.
Continuous Improvement
· Drive improvement initiatives focused on:
o Efficiency and attainment
o Downtime reduction
o Labor efficiency
o Waste reduction
o Standard work implementation
o Employee engagement
· Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
· Promote Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement culture.
· Analyze operational data and use performance metrics to drive decision-making and improvements.
Communication & Collaboration
· Conduct shift startup meetings and daily performance reviews.
· Clearly communicate priorities, expectations, and performance goals.
· Ensure effective shift handoffs between supervisors.
· Partner with Maintenance, Quality, Warehouse, Planning, Sanitation, and other departments to achieve business objectives.
· Maintain a visible presence on the production floor for the majority of the shift and actively support operational execution.
Other Duties
· Perform all other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Plant Manager.
Qualifications:
· General understanding of bakery production and packaging operations.· Working knowledge of HACCP, CCP, SQF, GMP, food safety, and quality systems.· Demonstrated leadership and employee development skills.· Ability to follow, implement, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures.· Ability to enforce GMPs, company safety requirements, and quality standards.· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.· Ability to accurately calculate, record, and review production, labor, and operational performance data.· Proficiency with ERP systems, manufacturing systems, and Microsoft Office applications.· Ability to analyze operational data and make sound business decisions.· Strong continuous improvement mindset.· Ability to work in a standing position throughout the day with occasional bending and reaching.· Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Standards of Performance: The Production Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the production of bakery products that meet customer specifications, state and federal food safety requirements, and all company quality standards while achieving safety, productivity, labor, and schedule goals.

Authority: The Production Supervisor has the authority and responsibility to implement and enforce all company policies, procedures, and standards related to safety, food safety, food defense, quality, GMP compliance, employee conduct, attendance, operational performance, and production execution.
The Production Supervisor has the authority to:
- Direct and assign work activities within assigned production areas.
- Approve employee schedules, labor assignments, and time-off requests in accordance with company policies and operational requirements.
- Coach employees and administer performance management and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
- Stop production operations when conditions present a risk to employee safety, food safety, product quality, equipment integrity, or regulatory compliance.
- Initiate corrective actions necessary to restore safe and effective operations.
- Escalate unresolved operational, quality, safety, equipment, or personnel issues to the Production Manager or Plant Manager.
When production activities deviate from established operating parameters, customer requirements, food safety standards, or company policies, immediate communication with the Production Manager or Plant Manager is required.
The Production Supervisor is covered by other Production Supervisors or the Production Manager during absences.
