Full Job Description

The Role

BrownBoots is a website design and marketing agency serving banks and credit unions. Founded in 1999, we support 60+ financial institutions across the country with an average client asset size of $788 million.

We are seeking an experienced business development leader to drive new client acquisition. This is a senior, self-directed role with full ownership of the pipeline, from market strategy through close. The right candidate will bring an established network in financial services and the judgment to determine how we approach the market rather than execute a predefined plan.

This position reports directly to our President and Founder. There are no layers between you and the decisions that affect your work.

The role is remote with occasional travel to client sites, prospect meetings, and industry conferences.

What You’ll Be Doing

Market Development & Pipeline

Build and own the new business pipeline through direct outreach, referrals, conferences, and industry networking
Evaluate channel performance and allocate effort toward the highest-yielding sources
Monitor merger and acquisition activity across the sector and pursue resulting website and brand consolidation opportunities
Define target segments by asset size, charter type, and geographic priority
Qualify and convert inbound leads generated by our website and marketing
Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact through proposal and close

Procurement & Compliance

Lead responses to formal RFPs and structured procurement processes
Manage vendor due diligence and third-party risk reviews, including security questionnaires and vendor management documentation
Structure deal timelines around board and committee approval cycles

Industry Presence & Partnerships

Develop referral relationships with complementary vendors and consultants in financial services
Maintain active membership in banking and credit union associations
Own conference strategy, including event selection, presence, and pre- and post-show outreach
Pursue speaking engagements, panels, and webinar opportunities

Growth & Enablement

Update and improve sales materials, proposals, and presentation approach
Support the broader team in identifying expansion opportunities and growing existing client relationships.
Report market intelligence to leadership, including competitive positioning, pricing feedback, and demand signals
Coordinate handoff to the delivery team following close

What We’re Looking For

8+ years in sales or business development, with significant experience selling marketing or technology solutions to banks and credit unions
Demonstrated understanding of how financial institutions evaluate, approve, and purchase vendor services
An established professional network in the financial services sector
Proven ability to operate independently and manage pipeline, priorities, and travel without direct oversight
A consultative approach. We position ourselves as accessible experts. This role is not a fit for a transactional or high-pressure sales style
Genuine interest in our work and the clients we serve
We are a small organization, and this role will directly influence how we grow. Cultural fit carries equal weight to experience.

Compensation

On-target earnings of $120,000–$150,000, with meaningful upside beyond that for strong performance
Base salary of $60,000–$70,000, commensurate with experience
Uncapped commission on all new business
Guaranteed draw against commission during the first six months while you build pipeline, so ramp-up is supported rather than penalized
