Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Services Coordinator works under general supervision of the Director to deliver general health and safety care to children in the Head Start Program. Will monitor the health records of all Head Start children to assure all children are following a wellness plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s in Health Science; LPN, preferred.
Three years of experience in health programming, with an understanding of child development theories and practices.
Computer skills and the ability to type.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess record of current Tuberculin test and physical examination attesting to the fact that the individual is free from communicable disease.
Must have a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and an automobile available at work site at all times.
Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications.
Limited criminal history background check, BMV license review, FBI fingerprinting, and National Sex Offender check.
CPR/FA trainer certification or willing to obtain.
Certified car seat technician or willing to obtain.

MAJOR DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Administration and Management

Carries out goals, policies, and activities designed to implement objectives and performance standards.
Adheres to the health budget, which includes allocation of funds for medical and dental.
Prepares reports as requested and submits end-of-month reports to the Director.
Develops policies and procedures for responding to medical and dental emergencies.
Maintain records on current staff and volunteers’ yearly TB Tests and physicals.
Schedule CPR and First Aid Training for staff.
Provides health records to public kindergarten classes when child enters public schools.
Review, evaluate, and interpret health records, vital statistics, and other data affecting health services.
Maintains records and insures compliance with all nutrition performance standards.
Monitors all health and safety regulations to maintain compliance with all licensing regulations on a monthly basis.
Updates child information.

B. Coordination

Plans the health program with an interdisciplinary team of staff, parents, and other component specialists, and supervises the implementation of the planned activities in accordance with performance standards.
Plans and assists teaching staff in implementing a health education curriculum, obtaining input from other staff and parents.
Assists in the coordination of other components with the health education curriculum, obtaining input from other staff and parents.
Organizes Health Services Advisory Committee for each county and follows up on recommendations and documentation.
Develops a list of local health resources, a system to use these resources, and establishes working relationships with local providers through contractual agreements, as appropriate.
Serves as liaison to the health community and advocate for child health.
Establishes screening dates for all classes with the health professionals in each community and attends.
Follows-up and transports children needing initial and/or additional health treatment.
Completes and maintains Health control sheets for each center.
Promotes preventive health services and early intervention.
Obtains or arranges screening examinations and treatment as required for all enrolled children.
Investigates health problems as referred by teaching staff.
Counsels parents concerning specific family health problems.
Promotes in conjunction with other Head Start staff, active parent involvement in the total Head Start Program.
Assists in linking the family to an ongoing health care system and assists family in assuming the responsibility for health care of child and family.
Promotes health and safety practices in the program.
Assist with annual recruitment activities.
Uphold the Head Start “Values” and “Mission Statement”
Do nothing that diminishes the reputation of the program.
Other duties as assigned according to need.

C. Evaluation and Monitoring

Develops and implements a plan and system of monitoring health activities of education staff.
Monitors health records of children and staff to ensure that they are complete and current.
Conduct 2 monthly Health and Safety Checklist.
Assist with annual Program Review.

D. Nutrition

Responsible for all weekly and biweekly food purchases, nutrition education, and selection of kitchen supplies and equipment.
Maintains records and insures compliance with all nutrition performance standards.
Responsible for submitting monthly CACFP claims for reimbursement.
Conducts 3 CACFP monitorings per classroom per year.
Consults regularly with the program nutritionist.
Follow up where necessary concerning any child’s nutritional status.
Serves as advocate for child health and nutrition.
Supervise and complete annual evaluation on cook.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Health Services Coordinator receives direct supervision from the Head Start Director

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Level II (Non-exempt)

SALARY RANGE: (DOQ)

HOURS PER WEEK: 37.5

WEEKS PER YEAR: 52

Pay: $24.00 - $25.00 per hour
