Position Overview
Tidewater Flooring is seeking a dependable, hardworking General Maintenance, Grounds & Delivery Technician to assist with landscaping, cleaning, general property maintenance, material pickup and delivery, and basic warehouse support.
This is a physical, hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with their hands and completing a variety of assignments. Work may be performed at the Tidewater Flooring facility, company-owned properties, supplier locations, and residential or commercial jobsites throughout Hampton Roads.
This is not an office or operational-management position. Daily assignments will be provided by management and may include yardwork, cleaning, minor repairs, moving materials, making deliveries, organizing work areas, and helping keep company facilities, vehicles, and properties clean and properly maintained.
Primary Responsibilities
Groundskeeping and Landscaping
- Mow, edge, trim, and maintain grass and landscaped areas.
- Remove weeds, leaves, branches, trash, and other outdoor debris.
- Blow off sidewalks, parking areas, entrances, and loading areas.
- Trim bushes, shrubs, and other vegetation as directed.
- Assist with planting, mulching, watering, and general landscape upkeep.
- Maintain clean and presentable exterior areas at company facilities and company-owned properties.
- Assist with seasonal outdoor cleanup and weather-related property preparation.
- Safely operate approved landscaping tools and equipment.
General Maintenance and Handyman Work
- Perform basic handyman work and minor repairs within demonstrated skill level and company authorization.
- Replace light bulbs, air filters, door hardware, fixtures, and similar maintenance items.
- Patch small holes, perform minor touch-up painting, and complete basic cosmetic repairs.
- Assemble, move, install, or organize furniture, shelving, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with basic building-maintenance projects under management direction.
- Inspect assigned areas for visible damage, leaks, safety concerns, or needed repairs.
- Report maintenance problems or property damage promptly.
- Photograph property conditions and completed work when requested.
- Assist with maintenance, inspections, cleanup, and minor repairs at company-owned or managed properties.
- Maintain tools and return them to their designated storage areas after use.
Cleaning and Property Upkeep
- Clean warehouse, office, loading, storage, and shared work areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and remove trash as assigned.
- Clean windows, doors, walls, fixtures, and other surfaces.
- Remove debris and dispose of waste properly.
- Help keep entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and outdoor spaces clean.
- Assist with warehouse and property cleanouts.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas throughout the day.
Material Pickup and Delivery
- Pick up flooring materials, supplies, tools, and equipment from distributors, vendors, and other locations as directed.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload materials safely.
- Deliver materials and supplies to the correct company facility, property, or jobsite.
- Protect materials from damage and weather during transportation and delivery.
- Retrieve unused, excess, returned, or damaged materials when instructed.
- Obtain delivery photographs, signatures, or other confirmation when requested.
- Notify management promptly of delivery delays, vehicle problems, damaged materials, or other concerns.
- Interact professionally with customers, vendors, subcontractors, tenants, and property occupants.
- Follow all traffic laws and company vehicle-safety requirements.
Basic Warehouse and Labor Support
- Load and unload flooring materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Move and organize materials according to management instructions.
- Assist with preparing materials for pickup or delivery.
- Help subcontractors load assigned materials when directed by management.
- Keep aisles, exits, loading areas, and storage spaces clean and unobstructed.
- Break down boxes, remove pallets, and dispose of packaging and debris.
- Assist with general warehouse cleanup and organization.
- Operate a forklift or other warehouse equipment only after receiving required training and company authorization.
- Report damaged materials, unsafe conditions, or other concerns to management rather than making operational decisions independently.
Vehicle and Equipment Care
- Keep assigned company vehicles clean and free of unnecessary materials or trash.
- Check vehicles for visible damage, low tires, warning lights, or other obvious concerns before use.
- Report vehicle, trailer, tool, or equipment problems promptly.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of company tools and equipment.
- Secure tools, materials, and equipment properly during transportation.
- Use company vehicles, tools, and equipment only for authorized work.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks independently after receiving direction.
- Willingness to perform landscaping, cleaning, material handling, delivery, and general maintenance work.
- Basic familiarity with common hand tools and outdoor power equipment.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry approximately 50–75 pounds.
- Ability to move heavier materials with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform physical work throughout the workday.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to communicate professionally with management, coworkers, customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ability to use a smartphone for calls, text messages, directions, photographs, and work-related communication.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- General handyman or property-maintenance experience.
- Landscaping, groundskeeping, or lawn-care experience.
- Cleaning, warehouse, construction-labor, or material-handling experience.
- Experience driving a cargo van, pickup truck, box truck, or trailer.
- Experience transporting construction materials or other heavy products.
- Forklift experience or current forklift certification.
- Basic painting, drywall-repair, carpentry, or fixture-replacement experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday.
- Occasional early mornings, overtime, or schedule adjustments may be required based on deliveries, property needs, and assigned projects.
- Employees must obtain management approval before working outside their assigned schedule.
Compensation
$17.00–$21.00 per hour, based on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.

This position does not have responsibility for scheduling installations, managing subcontractors, verifying purchase orders, reconciling inventory, assigning materials to customer jobs, or making operational decisions. The employee will complete physical and maintenance-related assignments under management direction.
