All clinical services will be provided within the LMSW’s authorized scope of practice and under the supervision of an assigned
Alabama-licensed, Board-approved Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
This remote opportunity is intended to expand access to mental health services by reducing transportation, scheduling and geographic barriers.

Clinical Supervision: Provided by an assigned Alabama-licensed, Board-approved LICSW
Service Population: Eligible Alabama public-school students and school-district employees
Schedule: Flexible; based on program demand, clinician availability, supervision requirements and assigned appointments
Compensation: Fee-for-service or contracted rate structure to be provided
Caseload Disclaimer: Appointment availability and caseload volume will be based on participating school systems, participant utilization, clinician availability and program needs. No minimum caseload, scheduled hours or number of encounters is guaranteed unless otherwise stated in the applicable agreement.
Essential Responsibilities
Provide individual, family and/or group behavioral health services through secure telehealth technology, as authorized by the program and permitted within the LMSW’s scope of practice.
Practice under the clinical supervision of the assigned Alabama-licensed, Board-approved LICSW.
Conduct psychosocial and clinical assessments and contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing review of individualized treatment plans.
Obtain supervisory review, consultation, approval and/or co-signature for assessments, treatment plans, diagnoses, clinical decisions and documentation when required by law, Board rules, payer standards or program policy.
Deliver evidence-based, developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed interventions consistent with the LMSW’s education, training, experience and demonstrated competency.
Provide services to children, adolescents and/or adult school-district employees based on clinician qualifications and assigned caseload.
Accept only those cases and clinical responsibilities that fall within the LMSW’s authorized scope of practice and demonstrated areas of competence.
Attend scheduled individual and/or group clinical-supervision sessions and participate actively in case review, professional development and performance feedback.
Seek supervisory consultation whenever a participant’s presentation, diagnosis, treatment needs, level of risk or recommended intervention exceeds the LMSW’s experience or authority.
Maintain required supervision records and cooperate with completion of supervision plans, verification forms and other documentation required by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Follow supervisory direction and implement reasonable clinical recommendations concerning assessment, treatment, documentation, care coordination, referrals and participant safety.
Complete accurate, timely and clinically appropriate documentation in the designated electronic health record.
Follow the prime vendor’s procedures for scheduling, case assignment, consent verification, documentation, care coordination and participant communication.
Confirm that all required consent, authorization and participant-identification documentation is completed before providing services.
Coordinate care, as authorized, with parents or legal guardians, school-based mental health personnel, the assigned clinical supervisor and other treating providers.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working with students, families, educators and school personnel.
Recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral health emergencies using established crisis-escalation protocols.
Immediately consult with the assigned clinical supervisor and follow emergency procedures when a participant presents with suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, suspected abuse or neglect, psychosis, significant impairment or another urgent safety concern.
Comply with Alabama mandatory-reporting requirements concerning suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation or other reportable circumstances.
Protect confidential information in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, applicable Alabama law, program requirements and professional ethical standards.
Participate in required orientation, technology training, compliance education, clinical-supervision activities and program meetings.
Maintain a private, professional and secure remote environment appropriate for confidential telehealth services.
Immediately report concerns involving participant safety, technology, privacy, documentation, professional boundaries or service delivery through established channels.
Refrain from practicing independently, accepting cases outside the program or representing oneself as an independently licensed clinical social worker.
Clinical-Supervision Requirements
The LMSW will be assigned to an Alabama-licensed LICSW who holds current Board-approved supervisor status and is qualified to supervise the services being provided.
Clinical supervision will occur at the frequency required by Alabama law, the approved supervision plan, program policy and the clinical needs of the assigned caseload.
The LMSW must be available for additional consultation whenever participant needs, clinical complexity or safety concerns require supervisory involvement.
Supervision may include case consultation, documentation review, treatment-plan review, evaluation of clinical skills, professional-development planning and discussion of ethical or legal issues.
When the LMSW is pursuing supervision toward LICSW eligibility, the LMSW and supervisor must complete all required Alabama Board approvals, supervision plans, contracts and verification documents.
Supervision provided through this position will count toward LICSW eligibility only when approved and accepted by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
The LMSW remains responsible for maintaining an active license, understanding applicable practice limitations and accurately completing any personal licensure documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Active, unrestricted Alabama Licensed Master Social Worker license in good standing.
Clinical designation or eligibility to engage in supervised clinical practice, as required by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Ability and willingness to practice under the direction of an assigned Alabama-licensed, Board-approved LICSW.
Understanding of the professional and legal distinctions between supervised LMSW practice and independent LICSW practice.
Education or experience in psychosocial assessment, treatment planning and delivery of behavioral health interventions.
Knowledge of evidence-based, developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed practices.
Ability to recognize clinical limitations and seek timely consultation from the assigned supervisor.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization and documentation skills.
Ability to use telehealth, electronic health record and other web-based systems.
Ability to satisfy all background-screening, credentialing and onboarding requirements established by VHS, the prime vendor and participating entities.
Reliable internet connection, appropriate technology and a private workspace meeting program security requirements.
Professional liability insurance meeting contractual requirements, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing behavioral health services to children, adolescents or school communities.
Experience treating stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, behavioral concerns or family-related needs under appropriate clinical supervision.
Previous telebehavioral health experience.
Experience working with Medicaid populations and associated documentation requirements.
Active Alabama Medicaid provider enrollment or provider identification number, if required by the program.
Experience coordinating services with schools, families and multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports, school-based mental health programs or community mental health services.
Training in suicide-risk assessment, trauma-focused treatment, crisis intervention or mandated reporting.
Current participation in an Alabama Board-approved clinical-supervision plan leading toward LICSW eligibility.
Scope Clarification
The LMSW is responsible for providing professional services within the assigned role, authorized scope of licensure, demonstrated competency and established clinical-supervision structure. The LMSW may not represent themselves as independently licensed or independently provide services reserved for an LICSW.
The assigned LICSW provides clinical supervision, case consultation and oversight consistent with Alabama Board requirements and program policies. Clinical supervision does not transfer responsibility for compliance with professional standards or licensure requirements away from the LMSW.
The prime vendor retains responsibility for program administration, participant enrollment, eligibility determination, scheduling, case assignment, consent management, platform administration, billing, clinical protocols, quality oversight and crisis-response infrastructure.
VHS and the prime vendor reserve the right to limit, reassign or discontinue cases when participant needs exceed the LMSW’s authorized scope, experience, competency or available supervision.
