Prepress Technician / Assistant Screen Printer

Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Mon-Friday 7:30am-4pm

Position Summary

FactoryFade is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Prepress Technician / Assistant Screen Printer to join our production team. This position will be responsible for handling the daily prepress workflow and supporting the Lead Screen Printer throughout the printing and production process.

The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment, and committed to producing clean, accurate work. Previous screen-printing or prepress experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Primary ResponsibilitiesPrepress Responsibilities

Review work orders, artwork specifications, garment details, print locations, ink colors, and production notes before jobs enter production.
Select the correct screen mesh count based on the artwork, ink type, garment, and printing requirements.
Clean, degrease, coat, dry, expose, and rinse screens.
Inspect screens for proper exposure, image quality, pinholes, breakdown, and registration accuracy.
Block out screens, tape screens, and prepare them for press setup.
Label, organize, and stage screens, inks, garments, and job paperwork for production.
Reclaim screens after production, including ink removal, emulsion removal, degreasing, and haze reduction.
Maintain an organized screen inventory and identify screens that need repair, re-stretching, or replacement.
Mix and prepare inks according to job specifications and approved color standards.
Maintain accurate records for ink formulas, screen details, exposure settings, and recurring jobs.
Keep the screen room, washout booth, ink area, and prepress equipment clean and organized.

Assistant Screen-Printing Responsibilities

Assist the Lead Screen Printer with press setup, screen installation, registration, ink preparation, and test printing.
Load and unload garments during production.
Monitor print quality, placement, ink coverage, registration, curing, and garment condition throughout production.
Identify misprints, damaged garments, print defects, and inconsistencies before products continue through production.
Catch garments from the conveyor dryer and organize completed items by size, style, color, and order.
Assist with folding, counting, packing, labeling, and preparing completed orders for pickup or shipment.
Help clean screens, squeegees, flood bars, ink containers, presses, and production tools after each job.
Assist with maintaining screen-printing presses, conveyor dryers, flash units, exposure equipment, and other shop equipment.
Support other production departments when needed to help jobs remain on schedule.

Quality and Workflow Expectations

Follow work orders and approved artwork closely.
Verify job details before beginning each stage of production.
Maintain consistent screen quality, registration, print placement, ink color, and curing standards.
Communicate production concerns, artwork issues, damaged garments, shortages, and equipment problems promptly.
Complete prepress work according to the production schedule so jobs are ready when needed.
Minimize wasted screens, film, ink, chemicals, garments, and production time.
Follow established procedures for job staging, quality control, cleanup, and order completion.

Qualifications

Previous screen-printing, prepress, production, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
Knowledge of color separations, halftones, registration, mesh counts, emulsions, exposure, ink systems, and screen reclaiming is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written work orders.
Good organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple jobs in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to communicate clearly and work well as part of a production team.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and production techniques.
Ability to identify problems and ask questions before mistakes reach production.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry boxes, screens, ink containers, and garments weighing up to [40–50] pounds.
Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive production tasks.
Ability to work around ink, cleaning chemicals, heat, noise, and production equipment while following all safety procedures.
Ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace.
