CNC Machinist Apprentice
Full-Time | Electric Motor & Pump Repair Shop | Buda, TX
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Overtime Available
Build a Career, Not Just Parts
Are you looking to become a skilled CNC machinist—not just a machine operator? We are looking for a motivated CNC Machinist Apprentice to join our growing team.
Our shop specializes in the repair and rebuilding of industrial electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, and rotating equipment. Our primary CNC machine is a HAAS ST-40 CNC Lathe, and unlike most production shops, the majority of our work consists of custom, one-off machining projects. Every day presents a new challenge, giving you the opportunity to develop real machining skills instead of producing the same part day after day.
Whether you're a recent machining school graduate or have some shop experience, if you're eager to learn, enjoy solving problems, and want to build a long-term career, we'd like to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Operate and learn to set up a HAAS ST-40 CNC Lathe
- Machine custom shafts, sleeves, bushings, bearing journals, and other precision repair components
- Read blueprints, engineering drawings, and repair specifications
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other inspection tools
- Make basic G-code edits and tool offset adjustments
- Learn machining techniques specific to industrial electric motor and pump repair
- Assist with machine maintenance and shop organization
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Qualifications
- CNC Machining certificate, technical school graduate, or equivalent training preferred
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Basic understanding of G-code programming
- Familiarity with HAAS CNC controls
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and understand machining tolerances
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Dependable, self-motivated, and eager to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Manual lathe and milling machine experience
- Industrial machining or maintenance experience
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience with custom machining or repair work
Why Join Our Team?
This is not a production machining position.
If you're looking for a job where you'll machine the same part every day, this probably isn't the right fit. If you're looking for a career where you'll solve problems, machine unique components, and continually expand your skills, you'll fit right in.
You'll work on a wide variety of custom repair jobs where no two projects are exactly alike. From manufacturing replacement shafts to restoring critical industrial equipment, you'll gain experience with CNC machining, manual machining, precision measurement, and industrial repair techniques that many machinists never have the opportunity to learn.
You'll work alongside experienced machinists who are committed to helping you grow into a highly skilled machinist.
