Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Dietitian is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing nutritional care for patients in a behavioral health setting. This role ensures that patients’ dietary needs are met in a safe, therapeutic, and clinically appropriate manner, supporting both physical and mental health outcomes.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Nutrition Care:

Conduct nutritional assessments for patients upon admission and as needed

Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans
-
Monitor patients for nutritional risk, weight changes, and special dietary needs
-
Ensure compliance with physician diet orders and therapeutic diets

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record

Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission)

Support infection control practices related to food and nutrition services
-
Follow all safety policies and procedures within the facility
Patient Education & Counseling:

Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients
-
Support patients with eating disorders, substance use disorders, and chronic health conditions through appropriate nutrition interventions
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the treatment team

Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and contribute to care planning
Food Service & Menu Oversight:
-
Review menus to ensure they meet nutritional and regulatory standards

Provide guidance to dietary staff regarding therapeutic diets and patient-specific needs
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assist other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Qualifications
Licensing & Certification: Registered Dietician
Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered as a Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association and licensed in accordance with (KSA 65-5906) at the time of hire and one year experience as a dietitian.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or hospital setting preferred

Strong communication and interdisciplinary skills
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.

Must take and pass a pre-employment drug screening test.
