Full Job Description

The Keeter Center at College of the Ozarks has full-time career opportunities available.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sous Chef position reports to the Exeutive Chef and oversees multiple kitchen areas through service and closing. This role also supervises and trains student workers. A passion for the culinary arts and hospitality is critical for this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

● Oversee large-scale food service.

● Delegate tasks as needed and give follow-up directions as necessary.

● Ensure food temperatures are logged and schedule sanitation duties.

● Ensure proper shutdown of all kitchen areas and equipment.

● Prepare fresh products for the line and perform monthly inventory.

● Train student workers on food preparation, safety, and sanitation.

● Ensure student workers have a thorough understanding of the recipe or task at hand.

● Accommodate a variety of allergies by substituting ingredients in food as needed.

● Ensure policies and procedures are followed to avoid improper cooking or handling of food.

● Champion a positive attitude towards accommodating requests for food preparation.

● Perform other duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

● High School diploma or equivalent required. Culinary degree or certification strongly preferred.

● 2+ years of related experience required.

● ServSafe certification required.

● Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

● Knowledge of food allergies and substitutions.

● General understanding of kitchen operations will be expected.

● Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to patiently lead and motivate large groups of students.

● Strong organization and active listening skills.

● Ability to prepare meals following standard health code practices.

● Ability to scale recipes.

● Ability to adapt and be accountable for responsibilities and pivot as needed.

● Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.

● Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen and apply safe methods of operating kitchen appliances.

● Good communication skills.

● Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES – Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. ● This position is generally active in nature.

● Ability to have continuous oral communication with co-workers and supervisors is essential.

● Repetitive movements, regular lifting up to 45 pounds, reaching, standing, lifting, stooping, detecting color-coding and reading fine print will be expected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

● General kitchen conditions. Exposed to moderate to loud noise levels of a kitchen environment.

● Exposed to mechanical moving parts, oils, and fumes or airborne particles.
