About IEI Advisors

IEI Advisors is a boutique sell-side M&A advisory firm that represents owners of specialty trade and mechanical contracting businesses through the full sale process — from first conversation to closing. For more than seven years we’ve built deep relationships and real expertise in the HVAC and mechanical contracting space, guiding owners through what is usually the most important transaction of their lives.

We are now launching a dedicated commercial electrical practice, and we’re hiring the person who will build and lead it. This is a rare opportunity to stand up a new vertical inside an established, well-regarded firm — with our process, brand, and back-office behind you from day one.

The Role

You will own business development and client relationships for our commercial electrical practice from start to finish: identifying and winning engagements, building trust with contractor owners, and personally quarterbacking each deal through to a successful close. You’ll be the face of the practice and the senior point of contact our clients rely on.

This is a deal-leadership role, not a pure sales seat. We’re looking for someone who can both originate and execute.

What You’ll Do

Originate engagements. Build and work a pipeline of commercial electrical contractor owners considering a sale, through proactive outreach, referral networks, and industry relationships.
Own the client relationship. Be the trusted senior advisor to each owner from first contact through closing and beyond.
Lead deals end to end. Drive the full sell-side process with support — positioning and valuation, CIM preparation, buyer identification and outreach, management meetings, due diligence, negotiation, and closing mechanics.
Manage buyers and process. Run structured outreach to strategic and private-equity-backed buyers and keep competitive tension and momentum through close.
Represent the firm. Build IEI Advisors’ reputation and presence in the commercial electrical market.

Who You Are

Required

Demonstrated experience leading M&A transactions from initial contact through close — you’ve personally carried deals across the finish line, not just supported them.
A track record of originating your own deals and building lasting client relationships.
Strong command of sell-side process, deal structure, and the economics of lower-middle-market transactions.
Self-directed, entrepreneurial, and comfortable building a practice rather than inheriting one.
Excellent judgment and discretion handling confidential, high-stakes owner relationships.

Strongly preferred

Direct experience with commercial electrical M&A, or with another commercial trade or specialty contractor vertical (HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, fire/life-safety, low-voltage, etc.).
An existing network of relationships among electrical contractor owners, operators, or buyers.
Working knowledge of construction-industry accounting, contractor licensing, surety/bonding, and related considerations.
FINRA Series 79/63 (or willingness to obtain) — not required, but a plus.

Much of the M&A world is pulling people back into the office. We’re going the other way.

This is a genuine work-from-home role. Over the years, IEI Advisors has built enough credibility as an industry expert that owners trust us before we ever shake hands — we’ve won and run engagements without an in-person meeting, with most of our work handled over Zoom and phone. You’ll travel for the meetings that truly call for it, but the travel here is light compared to most M&A seats and other highly compensated professional roles. We think the work is better for it, and so is the life around it.

Compensation & Benefits

We’ve built the comp to support someone launching a new practice — a real floor while you ramp, with uncapped upside once your pipeline matures.

Base draw: $100,000–$150,000 per year, structured as a recoverable draw against your incentive compensation.
Incentive compensation: Uncapped participation in the success fees on deals you originate and close, with an accelerator that rewards higher production.
On-target earnings: $250,000–$550,000+ per year once your pipeline is established (typically by year two), driven by a target of 2–4 closed transactions annually.

What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you’ll focus on building relationships and signing engagement letters — establishing a qualified pipeline of live mandates. From there, you’ll ramp to 2–4 closed transactions per year within roughly 24 months, with the firm’s full support behind you.
