Position Description

The Project Engineer at Overland Construction provides technical, administrative, and field coordination support for commercial construction projects. This role helps ensure projects remain organized, documented, and moving forward by supporting document control, procurement, design coordination, and cost tracking while working closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in project execution by facilitating communication between the office, field, subcontractors, and design team, ensuring timely information flow and building the foundation for successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

Document Management and Controls

Organize and maintain all project documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and field reports.
Maintain current document revisions and ensure the project team is working from the latest information.
Update project logs and assist with project reporting and administrative documentation.

Submittals and RFIs

Coordinate the preparation, review, tracking, and distribution of submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Maintain accurate logs and follow up with subcontractors, architects, and consultants to keep review timelines on schedule.
Help identify outstanding items before they impact construction activities.

Field Coordination Support

Support the Superintendent and Project Manager with day-to-day project coordination.
Attend project meetings and assist with documenting action items and follow-up responsibilities.
Help communicate design clarifications, project updates, and field changes between the office, field, and design team.
Assist with material deliveries and site logistics as needed.

Procurement Tracking and Vendor Communication

Monitor procurement schedules for long-lead materials and equipment.
Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to verify manufacturing and delivery schedules.
Communicate procurement updates and potential risks to the Project Manager before they impact the project schedule.

Cost and Change Management Support

Assist with tracking Potential Change Orders (PCOs), change orders, and other cost-related documentation.
Collect supporting documentation and maintain project cost logs.
Support the Project Manager with project financial organization while gaining experience in budgeting and cost control.

What Success Looks Like

Project documentation is accurate, organized, and always current.
RFIs, submittals, and project logs are proactively managed with minimal overdue items.
Procurement activities are tracked closely, and potential material delays are identified early.
The Superintendent and Project Manager receive timely, organized support that helps keep the project moving efficiently.
Communication between the field, office, subcontractors, and design team is clear, professional, and responsive.
Demonstrates continuous growth in construction knowledge and progressively takes on greater project responsibility.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or graduation expected within the next few months).
0–2 years of experience in commercial construction, internships, or related project experience.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable learning construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office.
Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and take initiative.
Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative team player who enjoys supporting others and solving problems.
