Full Job Description

Estimator – Heavy Highway Construction

The Fordy Group are proud to be partnering with a leading heavy civil General Contractor to recruit an experienced Estimator for their growing Heavy Highway Division.

As an Estimator, you'll play a vital role in securing and delivering major highway and transportation infrastructure projects. Working closely with operations, project management, and executive leadership, you'll prepare accurate and competitive estimates that support successful project delivery while helping drive the continued growth of the business.

What You'll Be Doing

Estimating & Preconstruction

Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy highway and transportation infrastructure projects.
Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and pricing requirements.
Perform quantity take-offs and develop accurate material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions during the bidding process.
Develop competitive bid proposals while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and profitability.
Participate in bid reviews, pre-bid meetings, and client discussions as required.

Collaboration & Project Support

Work closely with project managers, operations teams, and field leadership to ensure smooth project handovers.
Coordinate with engineering and design teams to resolve scope questions and pricing challenges.
Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
Assist with budgeting, conceptual estimating, and change order pricing throughout the project lifecycle.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

Ensure all estimates comply with company standards and client requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of market conditions, material pricing, labour trends, and construction methods.
Contribute to continuous improvements in estimating procedures, databases, and best practices.

What We're Looking For

Required

5+ years of estimating experience within heavy highway, heavy civil, or transportation construction.
Strong understanding of highway construction methods including earthwork, grading, paving, drainage, structures, and roadway improvements.
Experience preparing competitive bids for public and private infrastructure projects.
Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.

Preferred

Experience estimating DOT, municipal, or federally funded transportation projects.
Familiarity with HCSS HeavyBid, B2W Estimate, AGTEK, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software.
Knowledge of alternative delivery methods including Design-Build and CMGC.
Civil engineering or construction management background is considered an asset.

Work Environment

Primarily office-based with occasional visits to project sites and pre-bid meetings.
