Full Job Description

Lincoln Park Preschool & Kindergarten (LPP) is seeking an energetic, nurturing, and committed individual for a Kindergarten/Preschool Lead Teacher. This classroom is a blending 4-6 year old classroom. LPP is a NAEYC-accredited, play-based preschool in Lincoln Park. Learn more about us: lppschools.com/careers/

Lead Teachers work alongside one co-lead teacher and a classroom assistant teacher to create an engaging classroom environment, provide classroom management and supervision, and facilitate learning through play. We look for teachers who are passionate about cultivating a classroom community and who are flexible, strong team-players, and effective communicators. LPP hires teachers with Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field. For this open position, the candidate must hold an Illinois Teaching License for Kindergarten.

Hours are 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday, starting as soon as possible. Responsibilities include a commitment through August 31, 2027 (with the option to renew an annual contract starting September 1), bi-weekly lesson planning, bi-annual assessment of children, and working with parents to best support their children. Health insurance, 401K matching, Wellness Stipend, PTO and paid school breaks are also included.

The LPP lead teacher interview process begins with a first-round interview followed by a working interview in which prospective hires teach a short circle time showcasing their unique interests, classroom management style, and personality.

Lead Teacher Responsibilities

Prepare a warm, safe environment that is orderly, clean, appealing, and permits the children to grow and explore.
Plan and implement a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group, through developmentally appropriate practices, in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the program.
Assume responsibility in conjunction with co-teacher for preparing and posting weekly lesson plans and monthly calendars.
Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in-group activities.
Perform ongoing assessment of each child’s progress and development in the classroom.
Establish and maintain good communication with parents through verbal contact on a daily basis, written note, and/or phone conversations when appropriate.
Be responsible for actively supervising and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children at all times, both indoors and outdoors. Be familiar with and abide by licensing regulations and all program policies and procedures.
Work together with all program staff to solve problems, achieve goals, and respectfully communicate needs.
Follow LPP’s Discipline Policy and LPP’s Guide to Approaching Social Emotional Situations.

Lead Teacher Qualifications

Provide documentation of a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a directly related field from an established university.
Demonstrate the personal characteristics that facilitate effective teacher performance, human interaction, and provide for continued individual and professional growth. These characteristics include self-motivation, creativity, flexibility, dependability, the ability to follow and remember directions, and the ability to make quick decisions and use good judgment.
Be able to establish and maintain good communication with co-workers, assistant director, director, executive director, and owner.
Have the ability to foster physical, mental, and emotional growth and socialization skills in children.
Be able to design and carry out planned learning experiences, which will encourage maximum personal growth for each child in the group.
Be a skilled observer and recorder of children’s progress
Be able to respond immediately to any emergency situation.
Possess strong planning skills.
Be willing to continually increase knowledge in the field of early childhood education.
