Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking two dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistants to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a passion for animal care and a strong desire to provide the best possible environment for our furry guests. This role involves providing for the constant cleanliness of cages, runs, and ward areas as well as proper feeding and care of all hospitalized animals. The hours needed are Monday-Friday 4pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 8am-4pm and would be in both our Weymouth and Rockland locations.

Responsibilities

Cleans and Sanitizes all cages, runs, wards and related areas.
Gives baths (ordinary cleansing, flea, and medicated) and performs whatever grooming may be necessary to the treatment and constant cleanliness of each animal.
Recognizes and records any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any hospitalized animal; observes animals recovering from anesthesia.
Feeds each animal as prescribed by the attending DVM or technician and records appetites on patient charts.
Monitors and records urination and defecation on patient charts.
Ensures that each patient has proper identification bands and cage cards are correct.
Assists doctors and techs with the administration of medications and/or with restraints.
Laundry and other light janitorial duties including: mopping floors, wiping down tables, cleaning windows, and disinfecting / cleaning outdoor dog area.
Receiving and stocking medical supplies and foods.

Requirements

Experience in dog handling or kennel work is preferred.
Skills in pet grooming, pet sitting, or animal care will be considered an asset.
Strong customer service skills to effectively communicate with pet owners.
Ability to perform heavy lifting as required when handling larger breeds or equipment.
Knowledge of animal behavior and training techniques is a plus.
Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection methods
Knowledge of basic animal husbandry.
