Full Job Description

Fleet Facilities Technician III

The Agency for Community Transit ( ACT) is seeking a full-time Fleet Facilities Technician III to perform preventive, routine and breakdown maintenance of the fleet buildings and equipment, including areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other systems. Duties include monitoring systems performance, preventive maintenance schedules, contracted work, underground storage tank state requirements, assuring OSHA and Code(s) compliance. Essential functions include but are not limited to:

Provide maintenance, installation and coordination of the repair of buildings and equipment by checking and maintaining building systems such as heating, air conditioning, drainage, roof, and entry/egress systems; repairing door hinges, locks, closures, sectional doors, rolling steel doors, hydrants, sprinklers and other system components; and checking emergency and exit lighting systems.
Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules, determining deadlines and setting priorities, placing orders, and preparing necessary documentation for building/systems maintenance supplies, maintaining and updating databases of information and follow up on related issues.
Perform HVAC and refrigerant system inspections, cleaning, maintenance, repair or installation.
Perform electrical maintenance, repair or installation work by installing conduit and testing voltage; installing, calibrating and performing maintenance on electric instruments and equipment, such as electric motors, switch gears, and other electrical equipment; inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing security and fire protection equipment, gas, propane and electric heaters, refrigerators.
Perform routine plumbing maintenance, repair, or installation.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs to equipment lifts systems that include in-ground lifts, drive on lifts and column lifts.
Perform maintenance, inspections and repairs to UST’s systems and their dispensers. This includes all required OSFM of Illinois inspections and regulations.
Perform maintenance, inspections and repairs to vehicle wash systems to include gantry systems, pumps, lines, electrical and controls.
Monitor and obtain supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of inventory for a designated work area by ensuring availability of supplies for assigned work; monitor supply usage; receiving and checking supplies; and retrieving supplies from storage.
Perform basic carpentry repair.
Perform and/or coordinate custodial tasks associated with the care and cleaning of Agency facilities.
Keep buildings/systems storage areas orderly, clean, and safe.
Regularly attends work prepared to perform the duties of the position.

All duties performed under the direction and guidance of the Fleet Manager.

Qualifications/Requirements

Graduation from an accredited technical trade school or completion of an appropriate trade apprenticeship, plus four years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of the standard practices used in various building trades such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and structural systems.
Knowledge of the practices, procedures and methods involved in building systems maintenance, repair, and installation. Experience in the troubleshooting of building system problems and failures.
Knowledge of the practices, procedures and methods involved in monitoring and maintaining an appropriate level of inventory for a designated work area.
Knowledge of organizational structures, work assignments and the flow of work among inter-related operational units. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Agency staff, coworkers, and vendor representatives.
Ability to assess assigned work and determine necessary supplies to complete tasks and/or the need outsource the work.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form.
Skills in the use and operation of various vehicles, computers, hand and power tools used in building and systems maintenance.
Experience in reading various types of blueprints, plans and diagrams.
Ability to acquire and maintain any identified licenses or certifications required to perform the associated tasks.
Ability to acquire and maintain Class C driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must provide required personal tools.
Clean and neat appearance.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Normal working conditions for this position involve exposure to elements, such as high and low temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noises. Capacity to work beyond standard hours when needed to address maintenance needs.

Physical requirements of the position include full range of motion in all extremities. Possess the ability to lift, push/pull and maneuver objects weighing up to 75 pounds (e.g. pumps/electric motors). Requires the ability to stoop, crouch, bend, twist, walk at least one mile, and climb stairs/steps. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of shapes to clearly distinguish objects and sounds to communicate with others. Must be able to pass employment physical and drug screen.
