Full Job Description

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Full-Charge Certified Bookkeeper to join our accounting department in a hands-on role. This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position. We need someone with strong accounting office experience who can step into an active department, understand the current workflow, and help improve organization, accuracy, and consistency.

Our company operates in the food/meat processing and distribution industry. Our accounting department supports a busy operation that includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, filing, records, and general accounting office support.

We use Sage 50 along with an in-house front-end system. The right candidate must be comfortable working with accounting software, internal company systems, and existing office procedures while helping improve the flow and reliability of the department.

This position is ideal for someone who has strong bookkeeping experience, understands small-to-mid-sized business accounting operations, and can work independently with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

Take a hands-on role in daily accounting department functions
Work with Sage 50 and internal company systems to process, review, and reconcile accounting information
Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, filing, and accounting records
Review vendor invoices, customer payments, deposits, credits, adjustments, and account activity
Assist with bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, month-end preparation, and general ledger accuracy
Help identify accounting backlogs, errors, missing documentation, or process gaps and assist in correcting them
Maintain organized accounting records and ensure supporting documentation is complete
Help improve accounting procedures so work is handled more smoothly and consistently
Communicate clearly with management regarding accounting status, problems, priorities, and needed corrections
Work closely with accounting office staff to help create a more organized and reliable workflow

Qualifications

Certified Bookkeeper designation or equivalent professional bookkeeping certification required
Strong hands-on bookkeeping experience required
Sage 50 experience strongly preferred
Experience working in a small or mid-sized business accounting department preferred
Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, general ledger activity, financials, and month-end accounting procedures
Ability to step into an existing accounting department and work independently with minimal training
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to identify workflow problems and recommend practical improvements
Comfortable working with both accounting software and internal company systems
Able to communicate clearly, professionally, and directly
Reliable, accurate, and able to maintain confidentiality

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who has already worked in a hands-on bookkeeping or accounting office role and understands how accounting work should flow.

You should be comfortable reviewing AP, AR, reconciliations, records, and accounting procedures while helping the department stay organized and accurate. We are looking for someone who can do the work, improve the work, and help the accounting office function more smoothly.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position in a quiet office environment. The accounting department works closely with management, operations, vendors, customers, and other departments. Accuracy, follow-through, organization, and communication are important.
