Position Summary

Mountain West Industrial is seeking an experienced Safety Technician to join our team supporting construction and industrial operations at the TSMC semiconductor manufacturing campus in Phoenix, Arizona. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, TSMC safety requirements, and Mountain West Industrial safety standards.

The ideal candidate has experience working on semiconductor construction projects, understands cleanroom protocols, and is committed to preventing workplace incidents through active field engagement, inspections, training, and hazard recognition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform daily field safety inspections throughout active construction and semiconductor work areas.
Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, TSMC Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements, and Mountain West Industrial safety policies.
Conduct jobsite hazard assessments and assist supervisors with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Pre-Task Plans.
Verify compliance with critical safety programs, including:
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
Fall Protection
Confined Space Entry
Hot Work
Electrical Safety
Excavation and Trenching
Mobile Equipment Operations
Crane and Rigging Activities
Ensure employees properly utilize required PPE and cleanroom garments when working in controlled environments.
Participate in incident investigations and near-miss reporting, documenting findings and corrective actions.
Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing safety training.
Maintain safety inspection reports, audit documentation, and training records.
Work closely with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and TSMC EHS personnel to resolve safety concerns.
Promote a proactive safety culture by coaching employees and recognizing safe work practices.
Participate in client safety meetings, toolbox talks, and project safety audits.
Stop unsafe work when imminent hazards are identified and assist with corrective actions before work resumes.

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of construction or industrial safety experience.
Previous experience supporting semiconductor construction or manufacturing facilities.
Experience working in cleanroom environments and understanding contamination control requirements.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Certification (OSHA 30 preferred).
Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction standards.
Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, permits, and project documentation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety reporting systems.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience supporting TSMC or other semiconductor fabrication projects.
Experience working under owner-controlled insurance programs (OCIP) or large industrial construction projects.
Current First Aid/CPR certification.
Training or certifications in:
Fall Protection
Confined Space
Lockout/Tagout
Excavation Competent Person
Respiratory Protection
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Physical Requirements

Walk active construction sites for extended periods.
Work indoors, outdoors, and within cleanroom environments.
Wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, high-visibility clothing, and cleanroom garments.
Climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as required by project schedules.
