Position Overview
We are seeking a Training Specialist to independently develop, implement, and continuously improve professional development and capacity-building initiatives for the Brookline Center’s Massachusetts School-Based Telebehavioral Health program. The Specialist will translate program strategy, partner needs, research, and emerging best practices into practical learning experiences for school personnel, behavioral health providers, social care professionals, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders.
This role is designed for a resourceful self-starter who is a self-starter, highly organized, and comfortable moving work from idea to execution. The successful candidate will anticipate needs, identify solutions, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of deliverables with appropriate guidance rather than waiting for step-by-step direction. They will also know when to ask questions, engage subject matter experts, and surface risks early.
The ideal candidate brings experience in project management, community outreach/ development, behavioral health, education, adult learning, training development, and learning management system administration, along with a strong understanding of the opportunities and operational realities involved in expanding school-based behavioral health access.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy, Development & Delivery
- Own the development and execution of an annual training and professional development plan aligned with SBTBH priorities, partner needs, and program milestones.
- Design and deliver engaging live, virtual, and asynchronous learning experiences for school personnel, clinicians, administrators, families, and community partners.
- Develop culturally responsive, evidence-informed materials that reflect the specific contexts of participating communities and connect directly to school-based telebehavioral health implementation.
- Create onboarding, continuing education, and role-specific learning pathways for behavioral health providers and school district partners delivering telebehavioral health services in schools.
- Research emerging topics, synthesize complex information, and convert it into accessible, practical tools, presentations, curricula, and learning resources.
- Identify, engage, and coordinate subject matter experts; establish clear expectations for customized, high-quality content rather than generic or recycled training materials.
· Learning Management System & Resource Administration
- Serve as the primary administrator and internal expert for the program’s learning management system, including course configuration, user access, content publishing, reporting, and troubleshooting.
- Build and maintain a well-organized training resource hub containing toolkits, recordings, templates, frequently asked questions, and other resources for ongoing partner development.
- Establish efficient workflows, documentation standards, and quality-control processes for training development, approval, delivery, and maintenance.
- Track participation, completion, competency, and engagement data; proactively identify gaps and recommend actions to improve learning outcomes.
· Program Implementation & Technical Assistance
- Provide practical technical assistance, coaching, and implementation support so that training translates into consistent practice across school and provider settings.
- Collaborate with school districts, behavioral health agencies, state partners, and program colleagues to align learning activities with program goals, regulatory requirements, and local implementation needs.
- Develop competency benchmarks and job aids that prepare participants to navigate telehealth workflows, privacy requirements, school-provider collaboration, and crisis-response protocols.
- Recognize emerging implementation challenges, investigate root causes, and develop responsive learning or technical-assistance solutions.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a trusted training partner to schools, providers, subject matter experts, and the SBTBH implementation team.
- Lead training-related meetings and workstreams with clear agendas, decisions, owners, timelines, and follow-through.
- Build engagement and buy-in among school leaders, mental health professionals, community partners, students, and families to strengthen program adoption.
- Develop clear, accessible family and student engagement materials that increase awareness and understanding of telebehavioral health services.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Use qualitative and quantitative data to assess training effectiveness through surveys, focus groups, learning analytics, and performance measures.
- Translate findings into specific improvements to content, delivery methods, participant supports, and implementation strategies.
- Maintain a feedback loop with partners and program colleagues to ensure training remains relevant, actionable, and responsive to real-world conditions.
- Stay current on policy changes, funding opportunities, adult learning practices, and emerging trends in telebehavioral health and school mental health.
- Project Ownership & Team Contribution
- Manage multiple concurrent deliverables, dependencies, and deadlines using established project management systems and practices.
- Develop clear work plans, maintain accurate documentation, communicate progress consistently, and escalate risks before they affect outcomes.
- Bring forward well-researched recommendations, test new ideas, and contribute to a culture of thoughtful experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Collaborate across functions while maintaining independent ownership of assigned work from initiation through completion.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required with a focus in public health, behavioral health, social work, education, instructional design, organizational learning, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in place of a specific degree.
- Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating training, preferably within school-based behavioral health, telehealth, public health, education, or integrated care settings.
- Experience administering a learning management system and using virtual training platforms and digital content-development tools.
- Strong research, writing, facilitation, and presentation skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for varied audiences.
- Working knowledge of telehealth delivery models, school-based systems, behavioral health access, and trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
- Understanding of HIPAA, FERPA, and related requirements affecting student health information and school-based services.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data, feedback, and evaluation tools to assess impact and improve implementation.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize, solve problems, meet deadlines, and follow through with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the confidence to take initiative while seeking input when needed.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse professional, cultural, and community contexts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of relevant experience in training, professional development, instructional design, school-based behavioral health, public health, or education.
- Experience providing technical assistance, coaching, or implementation support to schools, healthcare providers, or community-based organizations.
- Familiarity with third-party payer reimbursement, telebehavioral health policy, and financing structures that support behavioral health services in schools.
- Experience developing accessible and multilingual learning content.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese.
