Quality & Safety Technician
Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
Position Overview
CDL Utilities is seeking a Quality & Safety Technician to support field operations and help ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards are maintained across active construction projects in the Fort Worth, TX area.
This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for conducting job site quality and safety inspections, monitoring crew and subcontractor performance, verifying adherence to company, customer, and regulatory standards, and identifying potential hazards, quality deficiencies, and process concerns before they impact project execution.
The Quality & Safety Technician will work closely with field crews, supervisors, subcontractors, project management, and company leadership to promote safe work practices, maintain quality standards, identify opportunities for improvement, and help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and customer expectations.
The ideal candidate is highly observant, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in underground utility, telecommunications, or construction operations. This individual should be comfortable working in the field, communicating directly with crews and supervisors, documenting findings, and following up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in underground utility, telecommunications, construction operations, quality control, or safety-related field work preferred
- Experience working around HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) operations strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of underground construction practices and job site safety requirements
- Ability to identify quality deficiencies, unsafe conditions, safety concerns, and process improvement opportunities
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to communicate safety and quality concerns professionally and effectively to field personnel and management
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple active job sites
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience preparing reports and documenting field observations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the assigned market
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Field Inspections
- Conduct routine quality control inspections on active construction projects
- Monitor company crews and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company standards, customer requirements, project specifications, and applicable regulations
- Observe HDD, excavation, utility installation, restoration, and related construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with quality standards
- Identify workmanship deficiencies, installation concerns, recurring issues, and opportunities for process improvement
- Support project closeout activities, quality verification, and customer punch-list completion
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct routine safety audits and job site inspections to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices
- Verify proper use of required PPE, traffic control, utility protection measures, and other job site safety procedures
- Monitor work areas for compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable customer or project-specific safety standards
- Identify and communicate potential hazards before they result in an incident, injury, property damage, or project delay
- Promote safe work practices and reinforce CDL Utilities' commitment to working safely on every job
- Assist with incident investigations, documentation, root-cause identification, and corrective action implementation when necessary
- Follow up on identified safety and quality concerns to help ensure corrective actions are completed
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Document field observations, quality deficiencies, safety concerns, corrective actions, and follow-up activities
- Prepare and submit daily end-of-day inspection reports detailing site activity, findings, and recommendations
- Communicate quality and safety concerns to supervisors, project management, and leadership in a timely manner
- Track recurring quality and safety issues and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Assist with developing and implementing corrective actions and preventative measures
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement throughout field operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in telecommunications, underground utility, or utility construction
- Previous experience performing quality control inspections, safety inspections, field audits, or construction compliance reviews
- HDD drilling, locating, or utility installation experience
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Additional safety, quality, or construction-related certifications are a plus
- Knowledge of customer quality standards and utility construction specifications
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
