Position Overview

Korman is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Bench Jeweler to join our growing service team.

The Bench Jeweler will perform a wide range of jewelry repairs, restoration work, custom jewelry services, and quality inspections while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship and client care. This position requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work with a variety of precious metals, gemstones, and fine jewelry.

The ideal candidate takes pride in producing exceptional work, works efficiently without sacrificing quality, and understands the importance of handling clients' most meaningful pieces with the utmost care.

Key Responsibilities

Jewelry Repair and Restoration

Perform ring sizing, soldering, laser welding, chain repair, clasp replacement, and other jewelry repairs.
Retip, rebuild, and replace prongs.
Set and tighten diamonds and colored gemstones.
Perform polishing, refinishing, rhodium plating preparation, and jewelry cleaning.
Repair bracelets, necklaces, earrings, pendants, and other fine jewelry.
Restore damaged or worn jewelry while maintaining structural integrity and appearance.
Conduct final quality inspections before completed work is returned to clients.

Stone Setting and Quality Control

Inspect jewelry before and after repairs to ensure all stones are secure.
Verify workmanship meets Korman's quality standards.
Identify additional repair needs and communicate recommendations to management.
Handle high-value jewelry with care and attention to detail throughout the repair process.

Custom Jewelry Support

Assist with custom jewelry projects as assigned.
Work from sketches, CAD renderings, or specifications to complete bench work.
Collaborate with designers, sales professionals, and leadership to ensure project expectations are met.
Maintain consistency in craftsmanship throughout each stage of production.

Service Department Support

Maintain accurate repair documentation and work-order records.
Prioritize repair work to meet promised completion dates.
Communicate repair updates and completion timelines with management.
Assist with evaluating incoming repair work and determining service recommendations when needed.

Workspace, Tools, and Safety

Maintain a clean, organized, and professional bench.
Properly maintain and care for tools and equipment.
Monitor supplies and notify management when materials require replenishment.
Follow all security, inventory, and merchandise-handling procedures.
Immediately report any concerns regarding repairs, gemstones, or merchandise.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3+ years of professional bench jewelry experience.
Strong skills in jewelry repair, soldering, polishing, finishing, and stone setting.
Experience working with gold, platinum, silver, and other precious metals.
Ability to work accurately with diamonds and colored gemstones.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple repair jobs while maintaining quality standards.
Professional communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with the service and sales teams.
Experience in a luxury jewelry environment is preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates may have:

Experience with laser welding.
Experience performing complex jewelry restorations.
Custom fabrication experience.
Experience working in a luxury retail jewelry environment.
Jewelry-related certifications or formal bench training.
Experience working with high-value jewelry and estate pieces.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand at a jeweler's bench for extended periods.
Ability to perform highly detailed work using small tools and precision equipment.
Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Adequate vision, with correction if necessary, to inspect small components and gemstones.
Ability to safely lift and move jewelry trays, equipment, and supplies as needed.

Complete repairs accurately and efficiently while meeting established timelines.

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position.

Korman operates Monday through Saturday, with typical working hours between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. The regular schedule and weekday off will be reviewed during the interview process.

Saturday availability is generally required. Some evening, holiday, and special-event availability may be needed based on business demands.

Compensation and Benefits

$28.00 to $55.00 per hour, based on relevant experience and technical ability.
401(k) with company match up to 3%.
