The Heritage Downtown is seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead every aspect of operations at our luxury Independent Living community in Walnut Creek, California.
This is an opportunity for an experienced executive who understands how to successfully operate a full-service community where hospitality, resident satisfaction, financial performance, employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence all work together.
We are looking for a proven General Manager who has successfully led complex operations with multiple departments, significant budgets, and diverse teams. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable reviewing financial statements in the morning, coaching department leaders throughout the day, interacting with residents during lunch, and resolving operational challenges before leaving for the evening.
This is a highly visible leadership position for someone who leads from the front, makes sound business decisions, develops strong managers, and takes complete ownership of the operation.

The Opportunity
The General Manager has full operational responsibility for the community.
This position oversees every department and every aspect of daily operations, ensuring the property consistently operates at the highest standards of service, safety, financial performance, and resident satisfaction.
This is not a corporate office position.
The successful candidate will spend significant time throughout the community, supporting department leaders, interacting with residents, identifying opportunities for improvement, coaching employees, solving problems, and ensuring operational excellence every day.
Key Responsibilities
The General Manager is responsible for leadership across all operational areas, including:
- Resident experience and satisfaction
- Dining services and hospitality operations
- Maintenance and facility operations

Required Experience
We are specifically seeking candidates who have successfully served as a General Manager, Executive Director, Regional Manager, or comparable senior operational leader with responsibility for multiple departments and overall business performance.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience overseeing:
- Financial management and budgeting
- Profit and loss accountability
- Staffing, recruiting, and employee development
- Operations management
- Customer or resident satisfaction
- Facility management
- Vendor negotiations and contract management
- Safety and regulatory compliance

This position requires someone who understands how all operational departments work together and has successfully led them as one integrated business.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of General Manager or senior executive leadership experience
- Experience managing multiple departments within a service-oriented organization
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and expense management
- Proven history of improving operational performance
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and decision-making abilities
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement
- Bachelor's degree preferred
