Full Job Description

GRAD MENTOR/PARAEDUCATOR 1

Purpose:

The Graduate Mentor supports students who are at risk of not meeting graduation requirements by providing individualized guidance and resources. This role focuses on developing and monitoring Student Success Plans, facilitating credit recovery opportunities, and / or providing students with academic support. The Graduate Mentor works collaboratively with school staff to remove barriers to graduation and empower students to achieve their academic goals.

NATURE AND SCOPE

BSD Grad Mentors provide personal, targeted support to students who are at risk of not graduating. This includes:

Students not passing 1–2 classes with less than 90% attendance
Students not passing 3 or more classes with attendance of 90% or greater

Graduate Mentors work closely with students to identify barriers to academic success, develop actionable Student Success Plans, and monitor progress toward credit recovery and graduation requirements. Caseloads are determined through collaboration with school counseling departments, Behavioral Health & Wellness teams, and 9th Grade Success (9GS) teams and may include students served by either general education or special education.

Graduate Mentors operate within a flexible, student-centered framework, adapting strategies to meet individual needs while maintaining accountability for graduation outcomes. Graduate Mentor’s work is variable in nature, and often completed while physically removed from the teacher.

While the primary focus is on supporting students in the 9th grade, students at all levels may be supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Support & Planning
- Develop and monitor Student Success Plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Assist students with credit recovery options and track progress toward graduation requirements.
- Provide guidance on academic strategies, time management, and goal setting.
- Administer assessments.
- Assist students with organization strategies.
Data Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and interventions.
- Analyze data with school leadership teams to identify trends and adjust support strategies accordingly.
- Review student grades in StudentVue to track progress.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with students, and school staff to ensure alignment of support plans.
- Collaborate with counseling departments, Behavioral Health & Wellness teams, and 9th Grade Success (9GS) teams to coordinate interventions.
- Communicate with teachers around lesson plans and credit recovery options.
Monitoring & Accountability
- Conduct regular check-ins with students to assess progress and address barriers.
- Document interventions and maintain compliance with district protocols.
- Report caseload updates and student outcomes to school leadership teams.
Professional Practice
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support student success, such as tutoring in a variety of subjects, student lunch supervision, before or after school homework club, and assisting with school-wide initiatives.

Collaboration & Teamwork
- Ability to work effectively with counseling departments, Behavioral Health & Wellness teams, and 9GS teams.
- Skilled in coordinating support across multiple stakeholders.
Organizational Skills
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks across a dynamic caseload.
- Detail-oriented in tracking progress and meeting deadlines.
Technology Proficiency
- Comfortable using digital tools for communication, data tracking, and reporting.
