Full Job Description

Overview

We are looking for a talented Sales Engineer to join our high-performing sales team. Drawing on your architectural, engineering, or lighting design background, you will partner with our sales team and collaborate with customers to understand their project requirements and develop lighting solutions using Nanometer Lighting's portfolio of innovative architectural LED lighting products.

Reporting directly to the President, you'll play a key role in positioning Nanometer Lighting as a trusted partner for architects, lighting designers, consulting engineers, electrical contractors, distributors, specifiers, and end users by providing exceptional technical expertise and application support.

Your passion for lighting, technical problem solving, and customer success will help customers bring their design vision to life while delivering high-quality, innovative lighting solutions.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

- Support the Sales team as the go-to person for answering technical questions, addressing concerns about potential technical blockers, and giving customers the confidence they need to move forward with the proposed solution.

- Strategize with sales colleagues to design personalized lighting solutions tailored to customer needs and project requirements.

- Manage and respond to customer requests for technical information, product specifications, lighting layouts, photometrics, and applications involving standard and custom lighting solutions.

- Serve as the technical expert on discovery and sales calls. Answer questions on product capabilities, controls compatibility, and technical requirements while addressing customer concerns.

- Collaborate with internal teams to determine the feasibility of customer requests, including technical requirements, manufacturing capabilities, lead times, and cost estimates.

- Support Sales and Product Management by investigating technical details, including product modifications, certifications, code compliance, and providing cost estimates where required.

- Act as project manager for custom and project-specific opportunities to ensure products are properly reviewed, documented, and delivered in accordance with Nanometer Lighting quality standards.

- Provide project updates to customers and internal stakeholders.

- Share customer insights and challenges with Product Management and Engineering to support continuous product improvement and innovation.

- Resolve technical issues for existing customers to strengthen satisfaction, retention, and long-term partnerships.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

- 5+ years of experience in the architectural lighting industry or related electrical building products industry in applications engineering, technical sales, specification sales, product management, or lighting design.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Lighting Design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Strong understanding of architectural LED lighting systems, luminaires, controls, drivers, and lighting applications.

- Experience working with lighting agencies, electrical distributors, contractors, consulting engineers, architects, designers, and end users throughout the project lifecycle.

- Knowledge of lighting industry standards, codes, certifications, and construction documentation.

- Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical drawings, specifications, lighting layouts, and schedules.

- Experience with photometric files (IES), lighting calculations, and lighting design software (e.g., AGi32, Visual, DIALux) is an asset.

- Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit/BIM is an asset.

- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, and relationship building skills.

- Proficiency with CRM systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

- Self-motivated with a collaborative approach, strong customer focus, and the ability to work independently.

- Results-oriented with the ability to prioritize, adapt, and perform effectively in a fast paced environment.

- Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and a continuous improvement mindset.

- High level of integrity, professionalism, and alignment with Nanometer Lighting's values.

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
