Position Summary
Temple Dor Dorim Early Childhood Center, a NAEYC-accredited Reform Jewish preschool, is seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly organized Assistant Director to join our leadership team.
The Assistant Director plays a critical role in supporting the Director in all aspects of school leadership, including daily operations, staff supervision, curriculum implementation, licensing compliance, accreditation requirements, family engagement, and community involvement. This position requires a dynamic leader who is committed to educational excellence, relationship building, and fostering a nurturing environment where children, families, and educators thrive.
The ideal candidate possesses strong administrative and organizational skills, a solid foundation in early childhood education, and the ability to balance educational leadership with operational management. This individual must be a collaborative team player who is enthusiastic about supporting both the school and the broader Temple Dor Dorim community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & School Administration
- Support the Director as a member of the school’s leadership team and serve as acting administrator in the Director’s absence.
- Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Early Childhood Center to ensure a safe, organized, and high-quality educational environment.
- Provide visible leadership throughout the school day, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, and special events.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as needed.
- Support front office operations and provide administrative assistance when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning, school improvement initiatives, and operational goals.
- Help maintain a positive school culture that supports children, families, and staff.
- Act as Camp Director during summer months (June & July).
Daily Operations & Staffing
- Oversee daily classroom staffing schedules and monitor teacher-to-child ratios throughout the day.
- Coordinate substitute coverage and staffing adjustments as needed.
- Supervise staff during morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, lunch transitions, and other operational periods.
- Provide support and guidance to teachers and classroom staff.
- Assist with staff onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and professional work environment focused on continuous growth and excellence.
Educational Leadership & Curriculum
- Support implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with NAEYC standards and best practices.
- Ensure lesson plans and weekly classroom plans reflect high-quality educational practices and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Monitor classroom quality, instructional effectiveness, and learning environments.
- Support VPK instructional compliance, assessment timelines, and documentation requirements.
- Promote best practices in child development, pedagogy, inclusion, and classroom management.
- Partner with teachers to support children with diverse learning needs and developmental profiles.
Compliance, Licensing & Accreditation
- Assist in maintaining compliance with Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations and childcare licensing requirements.
- Support licensing readiness and preparation for DCF inspections and visits.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, supervision, and ratio requirements.
- Assist with maintaining NAEYC accreditation documentation and evidence portfolios.
- Organize and maintain documentation related to emergency drills, health and safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote continuous quality improvement aligned with NAEYC standards and accreditation expectations.
Enrollment, Records & Administrative Management
- Assist with student enrollment, registration, classroom placement, and waitlist management.
- Maintain student files and records in accordance with DCF regulations and school policies.
- Track immunizations, health forms, emergency contacts, and required student documentation.
- Process and maintain VPK enrollment documentation, attendance reporting, and compliance records.
- Maintain staff credential files, background screenings, CPR certifications, and other required employment documentation.
- Track professional development hours, certification renewals, and compliance deadlines.
Programming, Facilities & Event Logistics
- Maintain and coordinate the Early Childhood Center master calendar.
- Coordinate room reservations and scheduling for enrichment programs, meetings, special events, and synagogue collaborations.
- Manage classroom use of shared spaces including multipurpose rooms, enrichment spaces, sanctuary use, and playground rotations.
- Ensure rooms are properly prepared and set up for daily programming, parent events, professional development, and special activities.
- Collaborate with synagogue facilities and operations teams to ensure smooth communication and execution of programs.
- Support logistics and planning for school-wide celebrations, performances, and family engagement events.
Carpool & Dismissal Operations
- Assist in maintaining safe and efficient arrival and dismissal procedures.
- Supervise staff assignments during carpool operations.
- Ensure accurate student release procedures and documentation.
- Support ongoing improvements to safety and efficiency during peak traffic times.
Family Engagement
- Build strong and positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Support ongoing communication between home and school.
- Assist families with questions, concerns, and problem-solving in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Help coordinate parent education opportunities, family engagement programs, and community-building initiatives.
Summer Camp Leadership
- Support planning, staffing, supervision, and daily operations of summer camp programs.
- Ensure camp programs operate safely and in compliance with all applicable licensing and staffing requirements.
- Assist with special events, field trips, and camp-wide programming.
- Jewish Community Engagement & Temple Participation
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Temple Dor Dorim and its mission and vision.
- Support preschool representation at synagogue events, open houses, recruitment programs, and community gatherings.
- Collaborate with clergy, Religious School, Youth Department, and synagogue staff when programs intersect with Early Childhood Center families.
- Participate in and support High Holiday programming, family events, children’s services, Shabbat experiences, and other synagogue-wide initiatives.
- Assist with staffing coordination, room setup, logistics, and supervision for preschool-related synagogue events.
- Provide leadership support during large-scale synagogue programs, festivals, family events, and community celebrations.
- Participate in occasional evening and weekend programming as needed to support the life of the congregation.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, Special Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience in a preschool, childcare center, or educational setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with technology and administrative systems.
Preferred
- Florida Director Credential.
- Specialization or experience in Early Childhood Education and/or Special Education.
- Knowledge of child development, pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment practices.
- Knowledge of Florida childcare licensing regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience working in a NAEYC-accredited program.
- Knowledge of NAEYC Accreditation Standards and Best Practices.
- Experience working in a Jewish educational setting is preferred but not required.
