Full Job Description

Community Engagement Manager

Solar States, LLC is a regional leader in the solar power field, operating with a dual-mission to install solar and educate the next generation. Since 2008, we have completed over 2,000 solar + storage projects across PA, NJ, and DE, and have trained over 500 students through our FIND YOUR POWER training programs. We are based in Philadelphia with an office in Olde Kensington and a warehouse & Training Academy in Bridesburg.

Position Summary

Community engagement is the key to Solar States’ sustained success. Our partnerships with long-standing clients and community organizations drive our growth, and power our ability to serve our dual-mission of installing solar and educating new students.

The Community Engagement Manager is an ambassador of this dual-mission, and will serve as a liaison between our organization and partners. You will ensure that we are fulfilling agreements with existing partnerships, and establish new ones with businesses, non-profits, and government entities. Some of these partnerships serve our solar installation side, while others are in education, so you will sit at the center of our universe.

Much of this work is event-based. You will be fully responsible for scheduling, planning, and attending partner events - all within a 2-hour drive of the City of Philadelphia - and will be expected to create your own events like Solar Open Houses with Solar States clients or customer appreciation events. In 2026, we are on pace to either attend or host 40 events, and we expect the volume to increase in coming years.

This role combines community partnerships, event planning, grassroots marketing, and local policy advocacy to deliver business leads that progress into consultations and signed contracts, and new student sign-ups that lead to invaluable experience in the clean energy field. The individual will play a central role in ensuring Solar States’ brand remains visible, credible, and mission-driven throughout the region!

Key Responsibilities

The mission of this role is to support the organization in 4 areas:

1. Generate qualified residential and commercial solar leads

2. Generate residential and commercial Service/O&M leads

3. Promote our FIND YOUR POWER education programs and recruit trainees for solar training and workforce development

4. Engage with municipal agencies, elected officials, and local committees to support solar-friendly policy, partnerships and community programs

You will be responsible for:

1. Maintain excellent communication with internal team members and external partners (Affinity partnerships, sponsorships, event organizers, etc.)

2. Ensuring Solar States is consistently hosting and participating in events (festivals, home shows, block parties, community gatherings, Solar Open Houses, etc.), and that any support staff are fully prepared to represent us at each event.

3. Building new referral networks (“Affinity Programs”) with mission-aligned businesses and organizations such as nonprofits and religious institutions.

4. Acting as Solar States’ representative at public forums, advocacy meetings, and community coalitions.

5. Developing compelling outreach and event marketing materials (flyers, presentations, email campaigns, social media content) in coordination with the Marketing team.

Tasks will include:

1. Managing event logistics including vendor relationships, scheduling, staffing, and marketing support.

2. Collaborating with sales team members to seamlessly hand off and nurture leads.

3. Tracking, reporting, and analyzing performance, including lead performance, new student engagements, and the status of developing partnerships

4. Educating the sales team on TPO offering, marketing, and sales narratives

5. Supporting and informing marketing strategies to meet lead and conversion goals.

6. Tailoring outreach strategies to the unique needs of each community and demographic.

Qualifications

1. 5+ years’ experience in community engagement, marketing, grassroots outreach, or business development (solar/clean energy preferred).

2. Proven ability to understand the business impact of this sort of work and communicate that impact to others on our team.

3. Strong background in event planning and public-facing communications. Excellent communicator, always on time, and detail oriented!

4. Knowledge of local politics, nonprofits, and regional advocacy networks.

5. Ability to represent the company in community, government, and customer settings.

6. Proficiency with CRM and data management systems, Google Suite, and marketing tools.

7. Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and comfortable with regional travel.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary with performance-based incentives tied to:

● Qualified leads generated and consultation conversion rates

● Signed contracts attributed to community efforts

● Successful partnership maintenance and creation

This role is a direct report to the Marketing Manager. Based in Philadelphia. Hybrid (expected to be in-office 2 days per week).
