Full Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: The Senior General Ledger Accountant is a vital team member to the accounting team. Under the directions of the Controller, the Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day management and maintaining of Drew CDC’s general ledger accounts while adhering to accounting policies and procedures, performing month end-close activities to include balance sheet reconciliation, posting journal entries, ad hoc projects, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

To be successful in this position, the Senior General Ledger Accountant must be willing and be able to perform the following essential functions always:

Prepare and record month-end closing journal entries, including expense accruals, prepaid, deferred revenue.
Perform basic accounting procedures, e.g. maintain A/R subsidiary ledgers, posting cash receipts journal entries, and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
Record payroll journal entries (semi-monthly payroll, monthly accrual, taxes)
Assist in the preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.
Responsible for making analytical assessments as to the disposition of entries and balances in the general ledger.
Assist with the preparation and review of audit schedules and works with external auditors on the completion of Drew CDC 990 information return.
Prepare monthly billing of certain state grants.
Assist the controller in preparing monthly financial statements, annual LAC-DMH cost reports and settlement reconciliation, and ad hoc reports.
Update and maintain agency-wide fixed assets schedule(s).
Update monthly budget utilization reports in budget software.
Assists the controller with preparing monthly budget-to-actual reports and analysis, using the agency budget software.

CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS: CFO, Controller, Contracts Specialist, AP/Payroll Clerk, Administrative and Program personnel, external stakeholders, and partners.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY: Not Applicable

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance;
Minimum 2 years of experience in non-profit Accounting, government funded a plus.
Proficiency in General Ledger/Grants Module, Financial Edge software, and Microsoft Office.
Advanced knowledge of Excel.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/CREDENTIALS:

Strong knowledge of accounting and GAAP.
Strong accounting background in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger.

· Familiarity with A-133, OMB Uniform Guidance, and nonprofit accounting.

Must have strong computer skills with proficiencies in using computerized accounting systems and must have intermediate level of experience using MS Excel with the ability to import/export data and manipulate in Excel for reporting purposes.
Knowledge of fund accounting systems and the Federal Uniform Guidance, a plus.

Must be flexible and able to multi-task while working in a collaborative team environment with a positive attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· This position requires the ability to do sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

· The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions (office): Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
