Full Job Description

(Position Summary

The Behavior Program Lead Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and behaviorally focused services to students requiring intensive support beyond the traditional school day. This role is designed to support students who need additional structure, accountability, and engagement during afternoons and weekends to successfully re-engage in their educational programs.

The Lead Specialist manages a caseload of approximately 8–15 students and provides direct behavior intervention, parent coaching, case coordination, and school collaboration. The position works closely with school teams, behaviorists, therapists, administrators, SELPA personnel, and community providers to ensure consistency across school, home, and community environments.

This role requires strong leadership presence, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to independently manage complex cases while collaborating within an interdisciplinary team.

Core Responsibilities Student & Family Support

Provide direct behavior intervention services, student engagement sessions, and parent coaching aligned with IEP and/or 504 goals
Support students struggling with school refusal, avoidance, emotional regulation, social skills, anger management, and behavioral compliance
Facilitate individual and small-group sessions during afternoons, evenings, and weekends as assigned
Support student transitions back into academic settings and alternative placements as needed

Program Leadership & Case Management

Manage and coordinate an active caseload of 8–15 students, ensuring consistent service delivery and follow-through
Conduct outcome screeners and pre/post surveys with students, parents, and staff to measure progress and program effectiveness
Participate in the development of measurable, educationally related mental-health and behavioral goals
Monitor progress and provide quarterly reports toward IEP/504 goals

Collaboration & Consultation

Collaborate with teachers, school staff, administrators, and clinical team members regarding behavior plans, goals, and interventions
Consult with families to help re-establish appropriate structure, routines, and behavioral expectations in the home
Assist families in accessing and utilizing community-based resources
Participate in risk and threat assessments with the clinical team when warranted

Documentation & Compliance

Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation for all assigned students
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all legal, ethical, and organizational standards
Participate in assigned meetings, supervision, training, and continuous quality-improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Experience Education

Bachelor’s degree required (Psychology, Behavioral Science, Education, Social Work, or related field preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of behavior intervention, mental health, and school-based support systems
Knowledge of IEPs, 504 Plans, and educationally related mental-health services
Familiarity with emotional disturbances, behavioral challenges, and social-emotional learning
Strong communication skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams

Required Abilities

Ability to assess student needs and environmental influences on behavior
Ability to work independently while managing multiple cases
Strong leadership presence across school, home, and community settings
Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams
Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and engage in active play for extended periods

Schedule & Employment Details

Availability Required: Mornings, Afternoons, evenings, and weekends
Employment Type: (Contract)Full-Time (30-36) hrs a week minimum
Time Frame: Jan 1st-June 14
(Summer Contract: June 15-August 14) Part time (15 hrs-25 hrs)
Work Location: In-person (clients school, clients home, and community-based settings)
Areas served: San Mateo, Redwood City, Sunnyvale, Livermore, Mountain View, South San Francisco, Half moon Bay
