Full Job Description

Haberman Law, a Nursing Home Abuse and Medical Malpractice firm, seeks a motivated, experienced Litigation Paralegal with a minimum of 3 years of experience to join our team. The position is full-time and in-person, with an annual salary of $65,000-$75,000.

Qualifications:

Certified Paralegal (CP) (NALA) or Registered Paralegal (RP) (NFPA)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in personal injury or medical malpractice

Work Schedule and Compensation:

Work Arrangement: Full-time and in-person
Annual Salary: $65,000-$75,000
401k/profit sharing after 1 year of employment

Key Responsibilities:

Supports attorneys across the full litigation lifecycle — from complaint filing through trial — managing deadlines, case files, and court filings.

Complaints:

Monitor and notify attorneys of upcoming complaint filing deadlines.
Track dockets on Writ of Summons cases; flag RTF filings and calendar response deadlines accordingly.
Serve RPDs with complaints to obtain medical records needed for Certificates of Merit.

COMS:

Ensure Certificates of Merit are prepared and filed on time.
Add cases to the COM list concurrent with complaint filing.
Monitor dockets for NOI filings and keep the COM tracking list up to date.
Coordinate service of discovery requests (RPDs, ROGs) on opposing counsel following COM filing.
File Motions for Extension of time to file COMs as needed.
Serve COMs by mail on unrepresented defendants.

Litigation Support:

Draft routine pleadings, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, and motions as directed by attorneys.
E-file documents in state and federal courts; monitor dockets and calendars for deadlines and court notices.
Verify complaints are accepted by the court before their due date.
Assist with maintaining organized, up-to-date case files, including pleadings, correspondence, medical records, expert reports, and deposition transcripts.

Discovery:

Manage the litigation evidence lifecycle, from gathering, reviewing, and producing documents (including Electronically Stored Information - ESI) to drafting discovery requests, responses, and subpoenas.
Ensure compliance with deadlines, Bates-stamp documents, create privilege logs, and support attorneys during depositions and trials.

Trial Preparation:

Prepare medical chronologies, deposition summaries, and exhibit organization in advance of trial.
Organize and index trial documents, prepare trial binders, and coordinate with court reporters, trial tech, and court personnel.
Attend trial as needed.

Client & Expert Interaction:

Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information, schedule appointments, and relay case updates.
Coordinate the retention of expert witnesses, track deadlines for expert reports, and assist with expert disclosures.

Administrative & General Support:

Maintain internal case calendars and deadline tracking systems for COMs, statutes of limitations, and discovery.
