Full Job Description

Job Summary:

Hands of Healing’s Food Service Cook (FSC) will report to the Food Service Manager and will be responsible for planning and cooking meals for the nutritional needs of all UC. The FSC will assist in the responsibility for ensuring the kitchen is in compliance with county and state level health codes. The FSC will hold a Food Manager’s Certificate and be able to work one of two shifts starting at 5:00 a.m. and ending at 9:00 p.m., 7 days a week.

Essential Functions:

Prepare three (3) complete meals and one (1) snack for all UC daily.
Prepare supplementary meals for newly arrived UC and UC who are in-transit (under DHS custody).
Responsible for completing daily inventory of food, meal temperature logs, washing dishes, and assisting in keeping the kitchen areas clean and safe.
Responsible for maintaining food storage and transporting all items needed for daily food preparation.
Assist with the development of weekly menus to provide a variety of nutritious meals to UC.
Assist with ensuring menus are considerate of the traditional cuisine customary to UC in care.
Assist FSM with ensuring maintaining a well-stocked kitchen.
Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free dining room and kitchen facility at all times.
Assist with ensuring that the kitchen is in compliance with health department standards.
Make suggestions to the FSM for following seasons.
Assist with ensuring food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
Notify the FSM in ensuring equipment is repaired as necessary.
Participate in all team and all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
Must assist in the evacuation of youth as needed due to inclement weather conditions, natural disasters, or other unforeseen occurrences.
Able to react professionally and productively to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of standards of food preparation, serving, and kitchen procedures.
Ability to lift and carry 30lbs including unloading food, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities.
One (1) year of experience in food service preparation.
Food Handler’s permit.
Must possess a valid state driver’s license preferred and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required by contractual agreement.
Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
Must be Bilingual English/Spanish
Cleared pre-employment and random drug test results.
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to obtain and perform Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (EBI)/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). Bending, stooping and lifting up to 30lbs required to complete daily tasks. Most activities include repetitive motions and can include overhead reaching.

Work Environment:

Work is in a twenty-four-hour residential facility. Work shifts are subject to change. This is a fast-paced environment with various sharp objects present and extreme temperatures. Involves walking and standing for extended periods of time.
