Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant/Payroll Clerk to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the accurate management of financial records, payroll processing, and accounting functions within a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with payroll processing, accounts payable, and general accounting duties. Your work will ensure compliance with accounting standards and support the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

Process weekly payroll accurately by verifying employee hours, calculating wages, and ensuring proper deductions in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Prepare, process, and maintain certified payroll reports in accordance with applicable requirements.
Manage accounts payable, including the accurate entry, processing, and reconciliation of vendor invoices.
Prepare and process bank deposits and accurately record transactions.
Prepare, process, and submit monthly union benefit reports and payments, ensuring accuracy and timely compliance with union requirements.
Maintain accurate employee payroll and accounting records.
Handle confidential information with integrity while maintaining strict adherence to company policies, privacy standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
Assist with general accounting and administrative tasks as needed to support daily business operations.
Respond promptly to customer service inquiries related to billing or payment issues while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with applicable payroll, tax, wage and hour, and labor regulations.
Enter monthly credit card statements and accurately allocate expenses to the appropriate accounts, departments, or projects.

Experience

Proven experience in payroll processing and accounting.
Familiarity with accounting software, including Sage Accounting.
Experience using ExakTime or other timekeeping software for accurate tracking and management of employee hours.
Experience with Paychex payroll systems.
Prior experience preparing certified payroll and processing union reports is preferred.
Strong knowledge of accounts payable and payroll procedures.
Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
