Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our perioperative care team in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at a leading medical facility. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from surgery, anesthesia, and other procedures within a dynamic hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess critical care experience, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a comprehensive understanding of patient assessment and acute pain management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced setting while delivering exceptional patient care across diverse medical disciplines.

Duties

Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, neurological status, and overall condition during post-operative recovery.
Administer medications, including analgesics and sedation, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
Manage airway patency and ventilator support for patients requiring respiratory assistance.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized discharge plans.
Document all patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic.
Assist with procedures like IV infusions, suturing, catheterization, and specimen collection.
Provide patient education on post-operative care instructions, medication administration, and recovery expectations.
Ensure infection control standards are maintained through proper sterilization and aseptic techniques.
Support triage assessments for incoming patients needing urgent or emergent care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and hospital policies.

Requirements

Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Minimum of two years of critical care experience in ICU, emergency room, or trauma center settings; Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; prior experience with Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is advantageous.
Strong knowledge of physiology, pharmacology related to anesthesia recovery, and acute pain management techniques.
Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, and individuals with disabilities.
Familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for procedures, and documentation standards.
Ability to perform complex patient assessments, interpret diagnostic evaluations, and respond effectively to emergent situations.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with healthcare teams and educate patients effectively.
