Work Hours/Days: Seasonal Position, Practices and Performances Scheduled Monday–Saturday
Typical Calendar Days Per Year: Seasonal (Fall and Winter Sports Seasons and Off-Season Responsibilities as Assigned)
Stipend: $2,500 per season (fall and winter)
Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs since 2006.

Position Overview:
The HS Assistant/JV Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and developing the school's JV cheer program in alignment with Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy's mission and values. The coach will foster a positive, spirited, and student-centered environment focused on skill development, teamwork, accountability, and school pride.
This role includes overseeing all aspects of the HS Assistant/JV cheer program, including planning practices, coaching performances and sideline events, supporting student-athlete development, maintaining communication with families, and ensuring compliance with school and CHSAA expectations.

Core Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Leadership and Development
- Lead all aspects of the HS Assistant/JV cheer program, including program vision, culture, and expectations
- Plan and conduct organized, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate practices
- Teach cheer fundamentals, stunting, tumbling, dance, and performance technique
- Develop student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally through positive coaching practices
- Promote accountability, discipline, and character development among squad members
- Support off-season conditioning, clinics, and skill development opportunities as approved
Game and Performance Management
- Coach and supervise all assigned sideline events, games, pep rallies, and performances
- Develop performance routines and make effective in-event adjustments
- Ensure student-athletes are prepared for performances through consistent practice planning
- Model professionalism and sportsmanship during all athletic and school events
- Ensure compliance with CHSAA rules, league policies, and school expectations
Student-Athlete Support
- Promote academic success and positive citizenship among squad members
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility, attendance, behavior, and academic performance
- Build positive relationships with athletes while maintaining high expectations
- Encourage leadership, teamwork, resilience, and personal growth
- Support student safety and well-being during all practices, performances, travel, and team activities
Communication and Family Engagement
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with athletes, families, administration, and staff
- Communicate practice schedules, event information, expectations, and program updates effectively
- Address concerns and conflicts professionally and collaboratively
- Represent the school and athletic program positively within the community
Operations and Program Management
- Assist with inventory, care, and organization of equipment and uniforms
- Ensure practice spaces and equipment are maintained appropriately and safely
- Coordinate transportation, event logistics, and team supervision as assigned
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, budgets, and program needs
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:
- Criminal background check required for hire
- Valid Colorado driver's license preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Completion of all CHSAA-required coaching certifications and trainings
- Concussion training certification required

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, demonstrate cheer and athletic movements, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and communicate. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a gymnasium, field, and school athletic environment, including occasional outdoor travel and athletic events.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, problem solve, and use interpersonal skills effectively.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous cheer coaching or cheerleading experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred
- Ability to pass a background check (required)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- Strong knowledge of cheer fundamentals, stunting, dance, conditioning, and squad development
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and student-athlete success
- Must meet CHSAA and school coaching requirements

Compensation and Benefits
This position includes a seasonal coaching stipend of $2,500 per season (fall and winter). Additional professional development and coaching support opportunities may be available through the athletic department.
