Full Job Description

The Senior Accountant is the primary preparer of the company's core accounting records and supports the Controller in producing accurate, timely, and fully supported monthly financial statements across all Janz entities. This role owns the recurring reconciliation and journal entry workload - bank, subledger, intercompany, inventory, and fixed assets - and is responsible for making sure every balance sheet account is supported by documentation that a third party could follow without explanation. The Senior Accountant also provides an independent review layer over accounts payable and accounts receivable work, which is a required segregation of duties control. The position reports to the Controller.

Core Responsibilities

Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries across all entities, with supporting schedules attached to each entry.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all company operating, store, and international accounts, and clear reconciling items rather than carrying them forward.
Reconcile the billing system accounts receivable subledger to the general ledger monthly, identify and explain variances, and escalate any divergence that is not fully explained.
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations on the monthly close calendar, including support for accruals, prepaid expenses, deposits, and accrued liabilities.
Post insurance and third-party payer receipts and perform the three-way tie-out between the bank, the billing system, and the general ledger.
Maintain inventory and cost of goods sold entries, support cycle counts and physical inventory, and reconcile inventory balances to the general ledger.
Maintain the fixed asset ledger, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and leasehold improvements, and reconcile it to the general ledger.
Maintain intercompany and related party schedules, including owner note balances and interest, and ensure they agree across entities.
Support store level and segment level reporting, including allocation of costs and preparation of location level profit and loss detail.
Prepare supporting schedules for monthly government settlement and concession reporting, and reconcile reported figures to underlying system data.
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns, support multi-state and multi-jurisdiction registrations, and maintain the filing calendar.
Maintain vendor tax information, support annual 1099 preparation and filing, and keep the vendor master accurate and complete.
Review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions and reconciliations prepared by the AP/AR Specialist as an independent check, and provide direction and training on accounting treatment.
Assist with cash reporting, including weekly cash position support and the supporting detail behind it.
Prepare requested schedules and documentation for audits, accreditation reviews, tax preparers, lenders, and other external parties.
Maintain written documentation of assigned processes so each recurring task can be performed by another qualified person from the documentation alone.
Identify control gaps, unsupported balances, and out of period items and raise them promptly rather than adjusting to force an account to balance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Systems and Project Responsibilities

Support the migration from the current ERP to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including chart of accounts mapping, dimension setup, opening balance validation, and post-cutover reconciliation.
Support the migration to the new billing platform, including validation that subledger balances convert accurately and tie to the general ledger.
Participate in user acceptance testing and confirm that reports, reconciliations, and recurring entries produce the expected results in the new systems.
Assist in building and maintaining reporting within the new environment, including segment and location level reporting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to apply it to routine and non-routine transactions.
Demonstrated experience with month-end close, account reconciliation, and journal entry preparation in a multi-entity environment.
Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and the ability to work with large data extracts.
Experience with an ERP or accounting system and the ability to learn a new platform quickly; experience with a system implementation or conversion is strongly preferred.
Ability to reconcile a subledger to a general ledger and to investigate and explain a variance rather than plug it.
Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage a recurring close calendar with firm deadlines and competing priorities.
Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain accounting results to non-accounting personnel across store and operations teams.
Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential financial, payroll, and patient related information, and the integrity to raise issues directly.

Experience and Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
Four or more years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle month-end close responsibility.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Experience in healthcare, durable medical equipment, retail, government contracting, or multi-location operations preferred.
Experience with multi-currency or international operations preferred.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
