Area Manager – Hydro Excavation | Charlotte, NC

Carolina Hydrovac is launching operations in Charlotte, NC, and we're looking for an experienced leader to build and run this market from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of a brand-new office — not step into an existing structure, but build one.

About the Opportunity

Charlotte is one of the strongest hydro excavation markets in the Southeast. The city is in the middle of a major, sustained infrastructure cycle: hundreds of millions of dollars a year in municipal water and sewer capital projects, a fast-growing data center corridor, active fiber and telecom buildout, and transit-related utility work — all of it requiring the kind of underground utility work hydro excavation does best. Competition in the market is fragmented, with no single company controlling it, which means there's real room for a well-run local operation to win a significant share of the work.

The Area Manager will have full ownership of this office: scheduling, new business development, safety, and revenue. In the early stages, this person will also act as the primary salesperson and, when needed, a working crew leader — a hands-on role for someone who wants to build something rather than manage from a distance. As the office grows, this role is expected to grow with it, transitioning into a dedicated leadership position as additional staff are added to support sales and field operations.

Compensation & Growth

This position starts at a base salary of $85,000 per year. Compensation is structured to grow alongside the market — as the Charlotte office expands, base pay increases accordingly. In addition, the Area Manager participates in a profit-sharing arrangement tied directly to the office's performance, giving them a real financial stake in the success of the market they're building.

What We're Looking For

At least 5 years of experience in utility construction and/or hydro excavation in the Charlotte, NC area, with the majority of that experience in a management or supervisory capacity
A track record of business development or sales success — this role is the primary driver of new business in the market
Strong knowledge of safety practices, OSHA compliance, and utility locate/DOT requirements
Excellent organizational skills — this person owns sales, scheduling, safety, and financial tracking at the same time
A valid driver's license; CDL a plus but not required
A builder's mindset — someone who wants ownership of a market, not just a job
