About Us

ebb & bloom is a warm, community-driven neighborhood cafe opening soon in Astoria, Queens. We believe in fresh, thoughtfully prepared food, genuine hospitality, and creating a space where both guests and team members thrive. We're looking for someone who brings creativity, reliability, and heart to the kitchen.

What You'll Do

Prepare fresh cafe fare including sandwiches, salads, and daily specials
Manage food ordering, inventory, and kitchen organization
Develop creative specials that reflect seasonal ingredients and community tastes
Maintain a clean, efficient, and positive kitchen environment
Uphold consistency and quality in every dish that leaves the kitchen

Supervisory Responsibilities

As Lead Line Cook, you are the heart of our kitchen operations:

Provide day-to-day direction and training to junior cook staff
Serve as kitchen manager on duty in the owner's absence
Oversee food ordering and kitchen inventory management
Ensure food safety and quality standards are met during your shift

What We're Looking For

3–5 years of kitchen experience (preferred)
Strong organizational skills—you keep a kitchen running like clockwork
A creative mindset with a passion for seasonal, fresh cooking
Reliable, consistent, and a true team player
NYC Food Handler Certificate (required)

Physical Requirements

This role involves the physical demands typical of a professional kitchen environment:

Prolonged standing (8+ hours per shift)
Lifting up to 50 lbs (supply deliveries, equipment, stock)
Working in a hot kitchen environment for extended periods
Repetitive cutting, chopping, and prep motions
Ability to work safely with sharp instruments and hot equipment

Compensation & Benefits

$25.00–$28.00/hr based on experience

Compensation Note: Pay is listed as a range per New York Labor Law § 194-b. Final pay within the stated range will be based on experience and qualifications.

Overtime Eligibility

This position is classified as non-exempt. You are eligible for overtime pay at 1.5x your regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York Labor Law.
