Title: After School Program Site Assistant

Position Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Sausalito, CA

Schedule: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm | Wed 12:30 pm - 6:30 pm (Additional hours based on school year calendar)

Compensation: $20-$22/hr, depending on experience.

Reports to: Program Coordinator, Director of Operations

ABOUT BAMP

Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema-inspired after-school music program that supports the social-emotional and academic growth of children in under-resourced communities through high-quality music instruction, nutritious snacks, and homework support. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our work, nurturing every child as both an individual and a musician.

JOB SUMMARY

Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is excited to launch a new after-school program partnership with the Sausalito Marin City School District beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. As part of this expansion, we are seeking enthusiastic and dependable Site Assistants to help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students in grades TK–8.

Site Assistants play a vital role in the program's daily success by supporting student supervision, safety, transitions between activities, attendance procedures, and the development of positive behavior. Working closely with the Site Coordinator, Teaching Artists, and program staff, Site Assistants help ensure that every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

The ideal candidate is patient, organized, and enjoys working with children from diverse backgrounds. They build positive relationships with students and families, model professionalism and respect, and serve as mentors who reinforce BAMP's core values of safety, kindness, responsibility, inclusion, and community. Site Assistants help foster a positive program culture where students can grow socially, emotionally, and creatively through meaningful after-school experiences.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, pursuing careers in youth development, education, social-emotional learning, recreation, arts education, or community-based programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support daily student check-in, attendance, and dismissal procedures.
Supervise students during transitions, meals, recess, and program activities to ensure a safe and positive environment.
Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program spaces and materials.
Build positive relationships with students and families and serve as a positive role model.
Support student behavior and facilitate conflict resolution using restorative and positive youth development practices.
Assist with enrichment activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and team-building exercises.
Provide basic first aid and respond appropriately to student needs and emergencies.
Communicate effectively with staff and participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS

Experience working with school-age youth in after-school programs, camps, classrooms, or similar settings, or a strong desire to learn.
Knowledge of, or interest in, restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
The ability to remain calm, flexible, and responsive in a dynamic environment.
A collaborative mindset, sense of humor, and commitment to supporting all students.
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress), or equivalent experience working with children and youth.
Must successfully pass Live Scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative TB test.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay Range: $20-$22/hr, depending on experience.
Paid Time Off: Accrued Sick Leave.
Jury Duty Leave (up to two weeks).

WORKPLACE DEMANDS

Work Hours - Part-time, hourly, with some responsibilities on weekends and/or evenings, depending on the program’s concert calendar
Location - Exposed to changing conditions in indoor, outdoor, and virtual settings--including in school campuses, classrooms, libraries, offices, venues, parks, and other community spaces
Cleanliness & Odors - Clean to moderately clean; Occasionally works with children with varying access to hygiene support
Social - Communicates with youth and adults in one-on-one, small groups, and large groups.
Structure & Predictability - Low to Moderate
Physical - Can remain in a stationary position; Can move through crowded and uncrowded spaces with or without assistance; Can use, inspect, and adjust musical instruments; Can communicate and exchange information and ideas; Can discern and assess student musical learning; Can lift and/or transport up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance; Can reliably report for work on time at job sites
Light - Lighting is typically fluorescent or natural
Noise - Noise levels range from quiet to loud
